  • ramblings-up a few pounds and the scale

As I read through the posts everyday I get to wondering...Why do some of us, myself included, have such angst over gaining a pound or three? Why do we let it get to us? As a person who only had 25 pound to lose the first time on Atkins, and now I'd like to lose about 8 more, I certainly can't speak to whats it's like to have a goal of 30, 50, 100+ loss.

But I am a person with goals, like we all are and that's why were are here. Why is it some days have the cloud of a small gain over it? Isn't feeling great, exercising and treating yourself well the best reward? I venture to guess that even when the pounds lost goal is met that most of us, being driven people, will replace that goal with another, probably exercise, and yet another, maybe a new job. So if you are waiting for the finish line it doesn't come....we just keep growing.

So I challenge those of you today frustrated with the scale and not quite where you want to be physically to this...

Love yourself today just the way you are. Today you are wonderful. Today you are more healthy than yesterday. Today you have a vision for this day and the next. Today you are truly treating your self in a loving way no matter what the day brings. All this is true everyday.

Thanks for that! I know that at the end of the day I feel %100 better about myself (no guilt) and my eating habits when I'm on this woe. Sometimes the scale derails me, but overall compared to the crap I used to put in my body before I/we should be proud everyday for taking that step.

413 squats so far this month!

Re: ramblings-up a few pounds and the scale

For me this progress is a combination of pictures, measurements and the scale. I find I care a lot less about the scale when the other indicators are looking better and better.

Re: ramblings-up a few pounds and the scale

Before I got started, I read the whole DANDR, and my thought was, "Even though this will be like all the other diets and I won't lose more than 5 lbs, it will still be worth it if it regulates the blood sugar thing..." I ended up losing about 60 lbs and felt great, but in the last couple years I let a stupid 2 or three pound gain derail what I know to be a healthy lifestyle. FatActress' thread has a lot of explanation for why the scale is "ruling our life" and even though I can't give up daily weighing, I'm committed to not letting it get me off plan. Thanks everyone for pointing out the sheer stupidity of making life choices by the unspoken advice of a horrid little metal monster!
