  • Second Time Around (for the second time)

Well I'm back to do this again! This is my 3rd time after falling off the wagon twice before. This is my 4th day of induction. The induction flu this time around was horrible! I have dropped 5.5 pounds since Monday.

I'm having a hard time coming up with different things to eat. I live in a very small town so its hard finding low carb items. I finally ordered a atkins cookbook hoping it will help me this time and maybe I can find some simple recipes for things like home-made salad dressing. I ordered my Dukes Mayo and it arrived yesterday. Today I must of slipped up and ate some hidden carbs because I am having hunger pangs already. Which i usually dont have if Im strict in what I eat. Im kinda frustrated right now. I want to succeed this time!

My lowest weight on Atkins was 136.0. I am at my highest weight EVER and I am very disgusted.

So any suggestions or tips would be very appreciated today!

Just hang in there, you know from experience that it works. It's not a race, slow and steady is the way to do it right. Don't give up, knowing that it works is half the battle. Stick around here, these people are a wonderful inspiration.

413 squats so far this month!

Armywife, you can do this! If you are having hunger pains then eat something legal, don't let yourself feel deprived. You may not have eaten something hidden, you may just be hungry!

You don't need to worry about finding pre-made low carb items, there are so many great recipes out there. I'm sure the cookbook will help you, also try looking at the recipe section of this forum! I get a lot of ideas on what to make from people on this board- these guys are pros! We're all rooting for you!

I'd really recommend you try to stay away from "products". For many they're just pale imitations of the real thing and often lead to falling off the wagon.

There's tons of great recipes and ideas all over these forums and the internet. It means more cooking, more prep work and less convienience, but it also means a smaller butt...

          Good luck

My tip is more of a question. why are you cooking two meals?

This is how I do it in my house: Last night we had baked chicken. I cooked green beans cause I can eat them and my kids love them. If you wanted garlic bread it was there. If they didn't want green beans I would have cooked wax beans for me and mac and cheese for them. Or I'd cook them a packet of those pasta noodle things? Lipton makes them.

I just cook a meat and then a veggie and another side if I need more foods or if they want another option. If they want a food that I totally cannot eat - like lasagna - That's the night I eat my fish or stirfry or whatever I cook that they totally frown up, which is not often anymore

You may have to change a few things here and there, but for the most part they can eat what you.

Armywife! Congrats on the 5.5 so far! Just keep on keeping on and visit the board as much as you can! Take it one day at a time, be positive, read old messages on this board, especially the "stickys", drink lots of water and do some form of exercise/physical activity. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Re: Second Time Around (for the second time)

Yep, 3 picky kids and one picky husband.
Tonight I made Crockpot steak fajitas with bells peppers, onions, tomatoes ect. I ate that with sour cream and smashed avocado. I heated up tortillas and a can of pinto beans for the kids and husband.

Yesterday I made Artachokes, which the family loves too. I made stir fry chicken with soy sauce and put lettuce leaves on the table for wraps. I made some rice for the kids on the side.

The day before I think I made fish with green beans and I baked potoatos for the kids.

See don't make seperate meals, just add some sides for the others and make sure you have a legal veggie to share... who knows it might rub off on them.

I had to get out of the habbit of making Mac n cheese, hambergur helper and pasta everynight. Now it's basically a meat that we all share, a veggie that we all share and a 1 side for the kids that I don't eat.

I have a 3 week dinner menu rotation if you need more ideas

Gotta agree with Rachel on this one. I make a main meat, either chicken, a pot roast, pork chops ect. then I make a veggie that we all can eat and I make a side for them, either potatoe or rice a roni or something. So the only extra cooking I'm doing is for a side dish for them.

congrats on 5.5 pounds! to echo everyone else, stay away from low carb 'products' and make your meals from fresh, whole ingredients. that faux 'food' has all sorts of hidden carbs and chemicals. you can do it!

I do the same. Meat and veg for both of us (no kids, just a boyfriend!) and then potatoes or something for him. Also, things like hamburgers or fajitas are so easy because they can wrap their meat/veg in a tortilla or bun while you just put yours on a bed of salad leaves and then pile the veggies on top! Sometimes I have forgotten to make an extra sidedish and he never complains, just has an atkins friendly meal for a night! And this has caused us both to really branch out in our vegetable choices so it is healthier for all even if he is still eating carbs.

Well I tend to make my sons leaner cuts of meat so how do I make up the fat I am missing out on? Maybe some real butter on my veggies? Or any suggestions?
