  • Did you get your bloodwork done?

I have never taken this step but have decided to get it done so I can prove this WOE is healthy to anyone who says otherwise.

It's a shame I didn't get it done at the start but better late than never. Am going on 17 March.

You know I had mine done a few months back as just part of a normal check up thing... I think I had it the year before too (maybe the Dr. took one look at my weight and decided I had high cholesterol?). I didn't pay any attention to it cause I just got a card in the mail saying my cholesterol was fine and everything else was too. I wonder if when I go in next year (in 9 months) I can have them pull up all the results I've had there and compare them ... that would be interesting!

413 squats so far this month!

I didn't have mine done, but I'd be interested to hear about people's results that have. I've noticed several people getting bad cholesterol reports lately on the board and I was wondering if it is indeed Atkins related? I've been trying to get my mother to give this WOE a try since she can't stick with her low-fat WOE and keeps gaining. Shes too scared because she thinks it will make her cholesterol go up. DANDR says that this WOE should improve cholesterol, not make it worse. Any thoughts?

I don't see how it could effect blood work IF your following the book. Tell your mother it's not about how much meat you can stuff your face with. It's about getting all your veggies in EVERYDAY, taking your vitamins religiously, making excersize the highest priority in your life and drinking a ton of water. Munching on hot wings, baby back ribs and omelets is only one little perk and it's what makes this woe "doable" not easy.

I know personally that even on days where bacon and eggs are my main meal, I'm eating way healthier than I used to with pancakes or cream filled donuts or fake diet food made with cancer causing chemicals to reduce the calories and still keep it edible.

I know when I had my lab work done for my Life Insurance I had very good readings.. But I didn't have anything to compare them to before though

I will definitely let you know how I get on.

It's funny how people focus on what you're eating instead of what you're not eating like all that sugar, flour and processed junk! I actually eat healthier now with more salad and veg.

Re: Did you get your bloodwork done?

I agree, I eat healthier now than I ever have and the majority of what I eat is veggies(I've found excess protein to be a major staller for me). I just want more confirmation that her cholesterol will be better at the end of induction in light of the couple of people who are having bad readings. I do believe that Dr.Atkins knows what he was talking about when he wrote DANDR and thats why I'm still mentioning it to her anytime we talk about our weightloss/goals. I don't want to push anything on her, but she and I are a lot alike when it comes to food. I couldn't stick with low-fat and Atkins was the answer for me. I want her to have that same success and sense of well-being that I have. Anyways, sorry for getting off subject and rambling on. I seem to be good at that.

Zarabelle - That is so true!! My whole family thinks that I starve myself because I wont eat my grandfather's cakes, pies, and biscuits when I visit. I was there the other day and he had made a low-fat strawberry cake and I was trying to tell him how I couldn't have it. He kept telling me that it was diet food and I'd be fine if I ate it. Processed junk is still processed junk even if it has a low-fat label on it.

Or a low-carb label on it for that matter!

                  According to Dr Atkins
When a person loses weight, cholesterol usually rises because the body must break down stored fat for energy. Your total cholesterol should drop within two months.
Also, remember to look at your HDL (good cholesterol) levels. A rise in total cholesterol levels could even be a good thing, if it's all attributed to HDL cholesterol. Total cholesterol may temporarily go up due to the rise in HDL.
So taking tests after only 2 weeks of induction might not be a good indication of how Atkins is affecting cholesterol levels - Dr Atkins suggested we wait at least 6 weeks after the initial (pre-Atkins) tests.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

                    Hi Elizellen

As I didn't have them taken before starting Atkins, the blood tests I am having (now on Fri) will be my baseline ones. I will then get them repeated after 4-6 months. I wish I had done them before but wasn't organised enough!

                    Did you get yours done?

Isn't it great how were all are so much more self aware of our overall health! I'm pretty sure I couldn't give a flip what my blood levels were when I was eating donuts last year I think anytime you make a choice to monitor your health such as blood test can only be a good thing no matter what the results keep us posted.
