  • Who helped you?

So who out there had someone help them to lose weight? Besides the wonderful people on this forum, who, while helpful, aren't aren't when you're not online.. who encouraged you to lose weight? Helped you through it? Said nice things?

I ask because I realized today, I had nobody. Nobody ever helped me by saying something like "you're doing great!" or anything like that. People encouraged me to cheat. Even my friends said I was "wasting away", when I was 50lbs overweight. I mean, in a society where looks are so important, why was everyone so adament about me not losing weight?

My son is my biggest helper. He tells me often how proud he is of me and that I am doing a great job and that my butt is getting smalle everyday. He is only 9 1/2. He's in the pic with me.

My wife is my support and my rock, she researches recipes, finds things we can both eat together(she's pregnant, so no atkins for her) and helps to keep me focused. Other than that, no one really.

If it wasn't for adbb, I might have fallen off by now, I certainly wouldn't feel as strongly as I do right now about my weight loss.

          Re: Who helped you?

It is interesting how sometimes people we know act like they might not want us to lose weight! Do they like us better fat? My coworkers are constantly trying to get me to have chocolate! I think sometimes that people like having someone fatter than them around! Other times it is much less malicious. Maybe our friends just want us to be comfortable with who we are and since they have only ever known us fat they don't know that a skinnier woman awaits inside! Maybe they just don't want us to be disappointed if we don't reach goal. My boyfriend is very supportive but it took a month or so for him to get behind it 100% because of how many times I've said I was starting and then didn't in the past. Now that he knows I'm for real this time he is super encouraging. I also have my Mom who is doing a different eating plan but we are at least able to talk to each other and encourage each other in how we are doing (though she lives in America and I live in England so we don't keep in touch as much as I'd like)! This board is the best though because while my Mom and BF are great, they don't know the ins and outs of what I am experiencing. So even though I do have a support system, I don't think I could do it without ADBB!

            Re: Who helped you?

Funny this subject should come up today as I already posted about. I really only have this board for support. I mean when I drop weight people notice and complement me and that's motivating, but as far as support goes?. My husband continually tells me he loves me the way I am and it doesn't matter if I lose weight or not, in fact he goes so far as to say "you better not lose too much". Now I think he's trying to be supportive in a "I love you no matter what kind of way" but then he does things like gives me a hard time about going to work out or commenting about what's on my plate at the dinner table "Are you doing your low carb thing again". Last night he actually when to the computer to look up the nutrition in mushrooms cause I made myself sauteed mushrooms while they ate rice and he was telling me they were doing my body no good nutritionally. Makes me want to scream seeing as how I just got done cooking him mashed potatoes as I'm eating cauliflower. I think some of it is my own issue cause I don't want to be reminded about the weight I gained back since last time. He's really not a jerk like I'm painting him to be but I do wish he was more supportive.

My daughter likes to go work out with me, but then she does stuff like comes home and makes brownies that sit on the stove for 3 days till everyone has picked them over and then I have to wash the pan! She's 16, I tell her she's evil to her mom...I'm really only joking with her cause I know that there are going to be brownies in the world and I just need to suck it up and find a way for it not to bother me.

So bottom line is thank God this board is here for me. I posted every day last time I was on woe a few years ago and lost 68 pounds over 7 months. There is no way I could stay strong without you guys and the support here!

The chicks with legs I would die for at the gym have helped me the most! I yearn to have a slammin body and I will
Most of my family doesn't quite get why I do what I do, but they are supportive, although when I say I would kill for a brownie, my hubby is the first one with a plate, waiting for me to scarf down He's a sweet boy, he emans well, but doesn't fully understand.

                Re: Who helped you?

I've had great support from my parents. They have always been super supportive and want me to be healthy. My dad lost alot on Atkins years ago and has kept it off so he understands my WOE and is supportive.

I'm also blessed to have 2 wonderful friends that I work-out with regularly. We started out just walking the neighborhood and then eventually joined Gold's Gym. We have been going for over a year now and hold each other accountable. I never would have stuck with the gym as long as I have if it weren't for them.

Also the PE coach at the elementary school I teach at is super supportive. I weigh in with her once a week and she's always there to cheer me on.

One last person I have to mention is Tami. She's the kick instructor at Gold's. She has been such an encouragement to me... sending me random, encouraging text messages about my progress in her class, or checking up on me when I've been MIA for a few days. She motivates me to work harder.

With all of these people combined, plus the support I recieve from all of you guys, I would be an idiot to fail. I have so many people holding me up, pushing me through. I CANNOT fail, I WILL NOT fail!

                  Re: Who helped you?

Well, yesterday I would have said no one around me really supports this WOE. Although when I whined last night about being so busy with all the housework etc, when I get home, and that all I get for dinner is a piece of cheese, she cut up and seeded some jalapenos today so I could have a low-carb treat!!! This is the first time someone around me ever tried to make it easier on me and I just love her for it!!

Tomorrow I'm sure it will be business as usual. Yeah, like the brownies that earlychildhoodeducator has to look at for three days. I've been watching fruit rot on the counter for several days now, if I don't cut it up and set it in front of my DH and DD they will let it sit there and tempt me.

My coworkers and boss have hounded me about "eating normal" for quite some time. One friend at work will shove something yummy at me and tell me I deserve it! The people at church have a WW group going, and at potlucks if I ask ingredients, they answer in these stupid "points".

Thank God for this board. Will someone please point me to an address to support it? I can't use paypal anymore since I have picked up a keylogger and I'm not sure if he's gone!

                    Re: Who helped you?

i had one very good friend who has a KNOCKOUT body but who has lost almost 40 punds to get it, and she did it with atkins. so SHE supports me completely. everyone else thinks i am a head case with fad diets and i need to 'learn to eat naturally and normally'. which is true to some extent, as i am an overeater, but please.

                      Re: Who helped you?

I have several friends who are very supportive, but they don't 100% get Atkins. That's okay, though -- they support my choices and don't try to tempt me.

My boss is very supportive and encouraging. She's terrific.

My running partner, who personally chooses to eat low fat and and low calorie to lose weight, is also very supportive.

My husband is supportive, but he does tempt me sometimes. He'll ask me to bring him ice cream, when it's best for me to just stay away. Or, if I eat something I shouldn't and lament about it, he'll say... it's okay, you've been doing good -- you deserve it. So, he means well, but sometimes it works against me.

I'll second what many have said about this board. I would have NEVER made it this ar without ADBB. The people here are wonderful. Those I chat with here, and also a few ADBB friends I've met or talked with by phone that I feel fortunate to call "real life" friends now.
