  • Snow & Donuts

My house has been invaded!!!! I just picked up DD from a church lock-in where they were just about snowed -in. The four inches we got here in middle TN is VERY unusual, very pretty (sorry you Northerners who are sick of it), and the roads were VERY treacherous with people who don't know how to drive.

I finised shoveling off the back walk and the deck, and came in to have the traditional hot cocoa that I always savored from my Northern days. I took the remainder of the morning coffee my DH is so good at making (very strong) and put two teaspoons of cocoa powder in it, two tsp Splenda, and a generous helping of cream. MMMMMM.........just the thing for frozen hands to wrap around its low-carb goodness!

Suddenly, it seemed out of nowhere, my senses were mercilessly attacked by a box of Krispy Kremes sitting on the table, smelling absolutely WONDERFUL and just SCREAMING to be dunked into that nice cup of mocha I was enjoying!!! My daughter had them sent home with her from the lock-in by people who did not realize their evil power over me!! The smell and the vibes they were putting out were excruciatingly pressing down on my fragile little Willpower, which was already weakened by a migraine from last night.

Those Krispy Kremes in their diabolical little psyches just KNEW that they could stop the headache, and so did my Willpower. Just in the nick of time, (victorious music, please), my Support Team rushed in to remind me that it will lose a much bigger battle if my Willpower gave in on this one. Yes, my Combined Knowledge (of being reminded to read DANDR) and my Accountability (that I made a commitment to post here), rallied together and beat down those Krispy Kremes!!!

Now if only I can resist the ten remaining (DD ate two) until DH comes home from work and scarfs them down. Y'all send out some good vibes today for little ol' Willpower. She hasn't been very strong since before Christmas and I'm trying to prop her up thru the tough times. The coffee helped, headache is down to manageable size but still big enough for an excuse to binge. Oh, and they arrived with a Papa John's pizza, which I took out of the box and put in the fridge for DH and DD. Two of my favorite carbages!

There, I did it. Now I'm gonna have to post here if I made it through the day or NOT.

This may sound a bit crazy but have your daughter hide them. Mine would do it in a heartbeat to help me. They might laugh but they will be proud that you are accomplishing such a great thing to help yourself. Sometimes I would have to stop and get fast food and they would give me bread even though I requested not to have it and I would have to throw it out the window into the bushes right that very moment. I couldn't even smell it. Hang in there!

Porcelain, that is a GREAT idea! I just brought them upstairs to her and told her to eat some and hide the rest. She's watching cartoons, at 15 years old! I hope she heard me! At least they're not in the kitchen so they won't be screaming as loudly. I have plenty of chores to keep me busy downstairs and I think I'll also make myself a low-carb cheesecake for the church potluck tomorrow.

Why do all my traditions have to involve something carbalicious!? In my skinnier days this would be a nice day to bake cinnamon rolls or chocolate chip cookies. That's what my mommy did on snowy days and it's so stuck in my brain I almost think it's a rule. There are SO manylifestyle habits to change, but it will be worth it.

And I just did something I never did before, posting my stats in the Journal forum!! Giving a couple reasons why I'm doing this really helped. If I don't stay strong I will have to take Statin drugs for my cholesterol, and I will have a hard time traveling to see my grandbabies. And they will have to cut my rings off my chubby fingers.

It's not just you. I am from the south and it seems everything revolves around food. Everything good invovled food. I think it is an American plague. I am trying my best for me and my daughter (who is also 15) to celebrate by acutally doing something instead of just being food related. Has your daughter seen Supersize me? I watched it with my daughter and she refuses to eat at McDonald's now. She will occasionally eat at In -n- Out burger because all their ingredients are fresh.

STEP AWAY FROM THE DONUTS !! You will truly "despise" yourself in the morning! Trust me, I know!! I , too, have carb traditions that I really enjoyed. I love making a nice dinner for the family with a scrumptious and decadent desert. I think that we as women are very nurturing and so we make nice meals and yummies for those we love. Unfortunately, we associate those smells and tastes as part of our nurturing when in fact it is the task or the actual baking or whatever that is the nurturing aspect of our beings. Make sense? I made my family a pan of brownies with fudge icing. I was a bit tempted but have discovered that I love the numbers on the scale more than the taste of those brownies. I will probably need counselling later on regarding my "scale issues" but right now I am happy where the numbers are going.

Christine, so how'd it go with the doughnuts?? I'm sure you didn't give in to the little glazed devils. What is it about being snowed in (or iced-in, which is more often -- though infrequently -- the case here in Ga) that makes you want to eat comfort foods? I think the hybernation gene kicks in or something....

                Take care, and stay strong!

They are GONE!!! And none of them will be sitting on my thighs, thank goodness! (I knew you would ask so I couldn't let you down, you all seem like you are really doing well!)

I think Carb Addict and are right, we are just trying to be nurturing. In the wrong way! My family were second generation Europeans and the cooking and eating were such a big part of who I am. Well, 40 pounds TOO big a part. I have my mama's shape and that's not a good thing. I have so much more from her like her generous spirit and her happy nature, and that doesn't have to involve food -- I just have to get that through my fat head.

No, Porcelain, she hasn't seen the movie, I should get it from the library for her. I saw it when I was in Canada with my older daughter. EWWWWWW. The younger one is beautiful and slender but she is so picky I don't think she's getting the best nourishment. I'm getting to the point that I just want her to eat anything, just as long as it's more than a couple bites. And she won't remember to take her vitamins!

Have you tried the gummi bear vitamins? You can get vitamins and veggie things in gummi form. They are really good.

                              Thanks for the support!

It never stops here! DD "won" a pile of chocolate yesterday from a Bible game and brought it home to tempt me.

So this morning I managed to escape my carb-tainted house to the safety of the office, stocked with cheese, peanuts, SF candies, and diet cola. Ah, as I slid the keycard past the entrance and walked in, peaceful in the knowledge that my family's carbage won't haunt me!

But NO!! The donuts and chocolate had phoned ahead and sent in even more powerful reinforcements -- A chocolate cake poised 6 feet away from the door, an evil glint in its lucious frosting! I swear I heard it taunting me as I snuck past it, trying to bury my nose in the daffodils I brought from my garden to smother out the irrisistible smell. Why are they out to get me!??!??

Well, I beat that puppy back as well! I HAVE THE POWER!!! (At least today.....)
