  • Chocolate is calling my name ...

So, this is my second time and I had been doing well for 6 days when, I decided to have some sugarfree jello with a bit of whipcream. That jello/whipcream seem to set me off and I ate some of my son's candy. So, I have restarted and my goal is for a clean induction. However, I can't stop thining about chocolate and I just want to make it thought a clean 14 days so, I can have an Atkins Chocolate Shake. Last time I used the shakes and i don't beleive they stalled my weight loss. Does anyone here regularly use the shakes? Thanks,

    In a word: No.

Why do you think if sugar free jello set you off that an Atkins shake would do anything different?

And the shakes are nutritional garbage anyway. Read the ingredients on those things, compare it to the Induction allowed foods list and see if you can find 4 things in it that are actually allowed!

Are you looking to kill your sweet tooth and make this easier on yourself or are you looking to find ways to feed the cravings monster and deal with it that way through-out your journey. I can promise you, one way is much tougher at first, but much, much easier in the long haul than the other!

How about some chocolate Clouds? Make yourself some with whipped cream and Splenda and pure cocoa. Then freeze them by spoonfuls on waxed paper.

I know how hard it is for a chocaholic but Brook is right, the shakes are garbage. And they taste just awful anyway compared to real foods.

I don't mean this to sound mean at all, I'm only saying it because I want you to succeed: Sweet things, regardless of what's in them may be a trigger for you. I personally can't eat any 'atkins approved' deserts, or I get cravings like mad. No low carb cheesecake, no products, not even diet soda.

You had something sweet and it triggered a slide. Try to think about it in a different light, you're not denying yourself chocolate, you've just decided not to eat it. It's a subtle difference, but one is negative, the other positive.

I find snacking on nuts, depending on what stage you're in helpful! Sometimes I'll have a handful of cashews when I need something sweet as they're the sweeter of the nuts! However, I know that they don't stall my progress! good luck!

                  hang in there!!

i had killer chocolate cravings in induction. if i rode it out, they were gone in a few days and i never had them again.

if i absolutely was going to CHEAT OFF PLAN if i didn't get some chocolate, i either added a tsp of unsweetened hershey's cocoa with a packet of splenda to some full fat cream cheese and ate it, or put some heavy cream in a bowl with a packet of splenda and a tsp of unsweetened hershey's cocoa in whipped it into chocolate whipped cream. or better yet, i combined the two.

it is important to remember the GOAL of induction is to BREAK these cravings, and if you feed them you will just continue to crave. HOWEVER, if it is between this and REAL chocolate, i pick this!

I'm in the same boat you are, I did atkins for a year but eventually fell off because I was eating every "low carb" treat I could find, and all they did was fuel my cravings for the real thing.

I agree with the curbing the sweet tooth thing, however I wanted to share what I do when I need a chocolate type snack. I mix up soft unsalted butter with splenda and cocoa powder and refridgerate again until hard then have a tablespoon every so often. It has less carbs than the whipped cream and beause it is so high fat I find I don't need too much. Obviously you need to watch the carbs in the cocoa and splenda.

I'm in day 9 of induction. I feel your pain Sweety......this is what I've been doing when it hits.

strong black coffee with heavy whipping cream and lots of sweetner (Splenda) - gotta be careful on this one

Whip cocoa and alittle vanilla and splenda in cream cheese and freeze - cut in chunks

A 8 oz cup of strawberry kiwi sugar free no carb drink

A coke zero or coke cherry zero.

And my fave is a Diet Dr. Pepper Chocolate Cherry soda. Man this is good. I have read the label and it says no carbs....but I only drink them periodically.

I guess overall the coffee does it best.

I thought the butter and cocoa and splenda was good too.

                        Hugs

I can so feel your pain. I have the biggest sweet tooth ever. One thing I've noticed that helps me is to have something sour. A dill pickle is awesome for this. Seems to help me.

Ok, so since I have cut out any sweetner and whipped cream -- I feel better. I have moved on to pickles and they do help. On a side note, I tried makes ribs last night from a recipe I got on this board. I put ribs (seasoned with Chinese Five Spice)and cabbage in my crockpot. OMG, my whole house smelled like an armpit! It doesn't taste bad, I just can't get past the smell. Needless to say, I don't recommend Chinese Five Spice Have a good week everyone! --Jenni

The shakes are awful and will set you back.

But there's no need to give up chocolate during induction. Here are two of my favorites:

                              1. Chocolate Mousse. Whip up a bit of heavy cream with splenda and cocoa powder. You only need a few teaspoons of the stuff to satisfy you. It is delicious and high in fat so the cravings will go away.

                              2. Pour yourself some heavy cream in a cup and dilute it with an equal amount of water. Add some splenda and cocoa powder. Add some coffee if you like. Heat in a micro for 2 minutes. Yummy and full of fat, so cravings go away. (I make the mocha every morning. Cocoa powder is considered a spice, so you can have it)
