  • The tipping point

    Aloha,
Thank you for the great support and excellent advice. I'm glad I found this home.

I need advice. I'm one week through a very clean induction. I've been exercising regularly (running and yoga). I'm drinking tons of water. I take a range of supplements every morning. I eliminated coffee (the hardest thing!). I even did a herbal detox cleanse before beginning.

After one week I feel on the verge. I'm getting that heated feeling, and slight headache that comes on when the body is on the verge of a change. I am just about there.

But my keto sticks come out neutral, the scale isn't moving. I'm not yet getting those symptoms that I know and am so familiar with from my first time around. you know, the bad breath, the flush, the feeling of satiation, the desire to drink a ton of water, that radiant feeling of being in a healthy WOE.

It is a week. I know that I need more time. Right now I feel like it could go either way. But is there some little thing that can help me over the tipping point???

    Mahalo!

    Re: The tipping point

You can totally do this! Don't rely on the Ketostix - I don't think they tell the whole story... You're feeling something going on - keep it up!!!
Inches tend to fall off faster than numbers on the scale. Have you measured yourself? How do your clothes feel?
Give your induction another week. Maybe post a menu for others to check out?
I know it's super frustrating!!! I wish you the best!!

      Your ketosticks might be bad.

If you are feeling it, it's happening! Besides, if you know you are doing everything right that's all you can do anyway.

The only thing I can add is to check EVERYTHING for hidden sugars (sugar, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, fructose, raw cane sugar, etc. etc.)

        Thanks Colleenie,
You are right, I do feel something happening. It is just not quite there yet.

Breakfast: Hard boiled egg, green tea
lunch: Chicken and romaine salad, ranch dressing
Snack: Slice of provolone, 6 black olives

        Dinner.... not yet
        water water water

        Yesterday
        Skipped breakfast, peppermint tea
Lunch: Beef and green pepper stir
Dinner: grilled chicken, romaine lettuce, cucumbers, and ranch
a hard French cheese for dessert

Check your ranch dressing, and unless you brew the tea yourself, check those too.

Ranch is Hidden Valley... there is sugar! I didn't notice until I read the label, 2 carbs per serving. I have not been using much, so I don't think it is a huge problem.

Sounds okay then. The only other thing I can think of is that you might be drinking so much water that you're diluting the ketones. That's OKAY though. It is actually a good thing. Just keep at what you're doing.

                    Re: The tipping point

You didn't list amounts, but that doesn't look like enough food. Your body may be in starvation mode.

Remember, you don't have to count calories! Feed your body. It's ok to have a 3-egg breakfast! Try eating more, within the induction rules. Are you getting near 20 carbs per day? Make sure you are not hungry.

That's my two cents. Let us know!

Hey Hula Mom, you are really doing great, your body will jumpstart and continue to move forward! After all You ARE DOING everything you can! That's very apparent. Keep in mind, your metabolism is going to shift and then you have to sustain this level to loose the weight....So think in terms of long-term not short concentrated effort, but long term efforts.....that was the key to my success. I worked out, ate right and yet did not kill myself on a daily basis....burn out is my enemy....Balance is KEY

I think you're doing a great job - I do think you could use a little more food the the morn though - breakie is so important! Fuel for the rest of the day!
Do you use Fitday.com? Great for keeping track of everything you put in your mouth - excellent way of tracking carbs.
Keep on keeping on, you'll get there - you're doing great

I'd just like to echo a lot of the advice you've already gotten in this thread.

Eat breakfast, you need to. Bring your calories up a little bit. Get your menu planned in fitday, and don't worry about ketosticks.

Mahalo is our word for THANKS!
You are all such an inspiration to me. Your helping me in this critical transition stage. I'm sure that once I get in that burning mode this will become as familiar as the first time.

It has been a couple years since I was last on Atkins, and I was really good at it at that time. It's like I've forgotten some of the basics. It is hard to get over the idea that a 'diet' does not mean cutting back. It is sooo anti-society. But you are so right, we need to eat sufficiently so that our body is comfortable with not hoarding energy. I don't think I am doing that well enough now.
I'm going to make a costco run and make sure that I am equipped to not feel deprived. Breakfast is so critical and it is not my strong suit.

Digital...I so appreciated your new thread on ketosis.

                              Outback,
Words of wisdom on balance. I can find this hard. I work hard, I devote myself as a mother, it can be very demanding. Keeping balance is so important.
I do believe there is a very spiritual side to health, and balance is the key. I think a downfall last fall was that I saw that my body has responded differently than it did when I was younger. Rather than think Atkins won't work after 40, I need to have faith and patience for my metabolism to adjust.
Thanks for reminding me that this is a long-term lifestyle. Not a sprint.
