    Re: Easter

Everything about my life has centered around food. My mom and dad run a resturant in Gwinner ND. They have been at it now for 36 years. If you have ever eaten my mothers cooking - oh it is heavenly. There is nothing except salmon loaf that she can't make.

Family time together always revolves around food. The more the better - share the recipe that sort of thing. Oh and the dessert...yum!

I am going to my SIL this weekend for Easter. I was thinking about bringing a dish with me. I know she is making a ham - which I can eat. Everything else however could be a bit risky. I dont want to just eat one food item either.

My brother started Atkins about 3 weeks ago and has dropped twenty lbs. I know he has not been true to the plan though. He doesnt realize how just those little slip ups can cost you. He is a really big man... he will not tell me the actual number or anything. He just said the only scale he can weigh on is the truck scale. But I thought bringing low carb friendly dishes for him would be good too.

I thought I should bring some califlower mash with me for sure. I also thought about making low carb lasgana. Or maybe I should make that Hamburger, broccoli alfredo dish someone was just talking about.

      Re: Easter

Every holiday my family does something that involves food. Its either a cookout or my mom makes a ton of yummy eats. Thats just how we get together and how they like to spend time together. Sometimes I really do wish that family gatherings didn't involve food, it would be so much easier for me. I'm taking my lunch along. I don't know what I'll do at DBF's family. They think that I don't like their cooking because I never eat their food at their family get-togethers. I'm going to have to wait till afterwards to go home and fix dinner. Otherwise I'll be lugging it around all day and possibly having to eat it too close to my lunch. No late-night munches for me, dinner is on time! DBF was evil and got me a milk chocolate egg with a marshmallow Peep inside today. Thankfully, I haven't had any desire to eat it yet! I will be getting rid of that very soon before the craving moster can attack! Have a happy Easter everyone!

        Re: Easter

I have also managed to avoid the cadbury cream eggs! A favorite since I was a kid and traditionally I would start buying them as soon as they come out each year. That and those cremelloe pumkins that show up at haloween-lol!
My family is all very suportive of my diet. I'm starting to see how thankful I should be fo that. We're having lamb, ham, green beans, and a big salad and I will pass on the potatos!

          Re: Easter

          Hi,

Yes, I'm afraid of caving in to Easter eggs but I've simply decided that I'm not going to have any this year. I'm living in Europe and was looking for chocolate for the kids and the only eggs I could find here are made by Lindt! Yes, (in my opinion) the best chocolate in the world. For me to decide not to have these is...well... willpower. I love chocolate - esp. the dark dark dark 85% kind.

So, I've decided and played it through in my mind and envisioned myself 'on the other side.' I'm praying for success.

I'm sorry we are not with family here as that is what this holiday is about for me but that does mean I won't have to go through a food-filled holiday like many of you. Stay strong and choose the good stuff there - for sure there are healthy food choices at the table. Good luck and be thankful you have the opportunity to spend time with your loved ones - make it about that and not the food.

            Re: Easter

"But not really, they are homemade, low carb ones. I am making them for a few people, which I do every Easter, they are very popular! Before being on Atkins I would some sugar, now I just use Splenda and they are every bit as good (I made some at Christmas too)." ---

Okay, you can't tease like that and not share a recipe????

I got the kids very small baskets this year, and such a small amount of treats that I fully expect them to be gone same day. I am looking forward to the abundance of boiled eggs... I don't usually eat them because I dont like to make them. I don't mind making pork picatta or huge three cutting board stir frys, but boiling eggs makes me crazy. Silly, huh?

This is the first year far from the family, so it will be really low key for us. We are goign to color eggs, then take turns hiding them in the snow. And I kick off the weight loss program at work next week, so that has a fire lit under me.

I love Easter. I love it more now that we go to church at night. It kind of puts an end to the eating and such, and caps off the day.

I will love it more next year when my sister is living nearer.
