  • Fell off of the wagon and need help!

    Hi Guys!

    I really need help!

I was doing so well. On Monday I had weighed in at 15.5 lost in my first three weeks. I mean just remarkable. Now i feel like I have gone and ruined it all with the last three days. I have had cakes and carbs and cheated. Now i just feel like a bloated disgusted mess.

Any helpful hints for getting on the band wagon? I am guilt ridden and feel like a failure!!!

I had cake last night and a muffin this morning!!!! AH!!! AHH! AHH!

    Thanks all!
    Katie

Just jump back on - you can do this!
So you fell off the wagon and was a little naughty - you probably feel yucky. Think about how much better you'll feel, once you get back on track. That and your progress thus far should be your motivation.
Jump back on and don't look back!!

I agree -- if you finished spanking yourself -- get back on plan - you have done really well for three weeks - so you need to ask yourself IS eating all that crap worth it? Since you are so excited about the 15 lbs weight loss (Congrat's by the way ~ awesome)... then I think your answer is NOOOO!

If you are worried about going out of ketosis consider going back into induction for a few days just to get yourself back on track and then get yourself back up on those rung ladders.

guilt is a useless emotion......like nike says JUST DO IT. go back to doing exactly what you were doing before. the memory of how crappy you feel might prevent another fall...it does for me. just saddle up and go again

Oh, I just did the same thing. I let weight loss and stress get the better of me (of I can have just SOME of this and SOME of that).

So, today is a new day, right? Every minute is new and a chance to start again. So, I'm back in induction right now. Join me!

Re: Fell off of the wagon and need help!

Like most folks said, feeling guilty and getting into a downward spiral really won't do you any good.

Just get right back on track, plan your meals, set solid, reachable short term goals. Not just weight goals, but eating goals, exercise goals, water drinking goals, all of it. WRITE THOSE GOALS DOWN. It's a very powerful thing to take a statement and put it to paper for a lot of people. Use "I Will" statements to yourself. "I will no cheat today." "I will go to the gym" "I will not be tempted by food" "I will feel better" "I will be happier" "I am worth this change".

All that said, you need to sit down in front of a mirror with no distractions and spend a little time with yourself. Find out WHY you cheated. Be brutally honest with yourself, but don't beat yourself up over doing it, you want to know the why, not punish yourself for the choice. If you understand the reason, you have better defense against doing the same thing again.

Many fat folks, myself included suffer from a fear of succeeding. We hate being fat, but it's this great shield that protects us from things we don't know if we'll succeed at. It's easy to say you were passed up for a promotion at work because you're fat. Easy to say someone doesn't like you because you're fat. It puts the blame of things in our lives on other people because "They just can't accept me for who I am." and it's frankly a bullcrap excuse. I've used it, most of us here on the boards have used it.

So many people come in, and start to lose, and see some success. They start to feel better, feel like they're doing something good for them, and all the demons come out. All the little doubts that tell you that you don't DESERVE to feel good. Doubt and not trusting yourself are big motivators, unfortuantely they motivate in the wrong way.

Spend a little time with yourself, get yourself back on track, and reach out for help. We're here for you at ADBB, use us.

Re: Fell off of the wagon and need help!

                Katie,

Bravo for reaching out to people who share your struggles and want the best for you. You already know this way of eating works. Do the research to find foods and snacks that satisfy you. There are so many different things that I've found to get me over the urges. (Mind you, the urges are not nearly as strong now.) The main thing induction does is help curb the cravings. You've experienced it, I know.

Just wondering, were your moments of hi-carb munching done in the company of other hi-carb eaters or alone? I'm finding when I'm spending time around people who understand and respect what I'm trying to do for myself, I have a much easier time resisting things that used to be part of my normal routine. Spend a little time on the boards. There are so many people who are willing to share their stories, struggles and triumphs. No cake or muffin is worth making you feel like a "guilt-ridden, bloated, disgusted mess" Drink your water, work the plan and Go for it!

but be transformed by renewing your mind."

Katie, I so understand where you're coming from. First I just want to say that you did not "RUIN" anything and you most certainly are NOT a failure! You've lost 15.5 pounds in 3 weeks! That's awesome! Yes, you've hit a bump in the road, it happens to the best of us, but the important thing is to get right back on track. Just leave those carbs in the past and keep pushing forward. You can do this!

I'm writing this as much for ME as for you. I haven't cheated but I do feel like I need to solidify this WOE in my induction.
Think of something that is really luxurious about Atkins. Something you cannot enjoy on a low-cal WOE and then live it up.
I'm thinking about a nice Morton's steak with some buttery greens.

Re: Fell off of the wagon and need help!

Thanks all!!!!! One of the things I cheated on at first were soft foods that were usually sugary. That's just because I haven't been able to swallow sticky foods! I JUST got home from the doctor's office. He told me that why I can't swallow is that I have cysts on my thyroid!!!! EEK!!! Little wonder! Anyways, that's why I cheated at first!!!! THEN IT ESCALATED INTO DISGUSTING REALMS!

Liz - You're right! I shouldn't think of it as a failure! Just get back on that horse right!? I just find it hard. I am afraid to step on the scale and see a gain!!! SO AFRAID!

Kelly - My moments were by myself. You hit the nail on teh head. It's when I didn't want to choke on Atkins legal foods. I wanted to eat ones that wouldn't make me want to panic! So soft usually carby foods.

I am going to up the water. You're ALL right on that.

Isn't it funny how three weeks of awesomness gets hidden by 3 to 4 days of grossness!!! Wows! How mental this journey is!

Digital - You're so right. I AM GOING TO SPEND SOME ME TIME. Time to ask myself how I started this spiral!!!! THANKS for the advice! A fear of success is an interesting perspective!

Mellany, Misplaced Southerner, and Colleenie...as usual your wonderful support makes SUCH a difference THANK YOU!

I love Pugs!!!! Today IS a new day! Time for us to look hawter than ever! We'll succeed together!

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT! TIME TO LET THE USELESS GUILT GO!

Katie - soo very proud of you for having such a positive attitude -- your are gonna be awe inspiring to some newbies one day

If your throat hurts (and bless your heart I bet it does) try some cooled down broths or maybe some scrambled eggs --- how bout one of those mock danishes -- their soft and have a little bit of splenda for the sweetness... need something cooling for your throat whip some heavy cream until if forms soft peaks add some cocoa and cinnamon and little bit of splenda... and whip some more.. you can either it eat like it is which I find quite yummy (especially during TOM)... or your can freeze them into little spoon size drops (which I heard was also good - haven't tried them yet)

                            Hope you feel better soon
