  • question for the women: TOM messed up?

when you started atkins..did it change or alter your menstrual cycle at all? i am on bc and i'm worried because i started spotting and i am not due for another week and a half or two. this is unusual for me so of course i am panicking and imagining that i am pregnant. the first time around doing atkins i don't remember any issues, but i also wasn't on bc either. ugh. did anyone go through this?

yes it can change your cycles in all different ways, stop, more frequest, heavier, lighter, more painful and some less painful. it just depends on you

Estrogen lives in fat cells so as you are burning your fat you are releasing extra into your system. For me it regulated my periods al ot more and once i settled in it also reduced the PMS.

I never had any issues while LC'ing. While on the pill & ring though, my cycles were really screwy. That's why hubby was snipped, and I no longer have to worry about that stuff
Lotts of things could cause spotting. Intercourse, hormones, implantation bleeding, fibroids, etc...
How long have you been on BC? Is it a new type? dosage?
Sorry if I'm no help, but good luck!

i've been on bc for a year..this particular pill for 4 months. the implantation bleeding is what i am afraid of. not wanting to be preggo right now. i don't know if i am being paranoid or what. obviously i've made a big change to my diet so i don't want to rule it out either. we'll see what happens i guess...not expecting my "real" period for another week or so.

I'm on BC pills and have been for quite awhile, my cycles are almost always like clockwork but since I started low carbing in January my cycles have been more irregular and heavy even with the pills and I have had some spotting. No idea why but I'm definitely not pregnant! I think it is normal and have read that any big changes in lifestyle (diet and exercise for us!) can have an impact on your cycle because you are changing hormone balances. Let us know if you are pregnant though!!

Re: question for the women: TOM messed up?

I've been on bc for 7 years now. My period always being regular and light - just annoying. When I first did atkins the first few months my period went crazy. Started early, was super duper heavy and would last forever. Then it would calm down and go back to being annoying. Restarted atkins it did the same thing. Heavy to the point of making me nauseus. Ive been on atkins for 3 months now and its now finally getting back to its regular habit of being annoying.

You just gotta be patient. Your body is changing and as women any change in environment, habits, eating, stress, etc. etc. etc. will affect our hormones. Pain in the keister but eventually your body will get used to it.

Getting to the dairy rung was the happiest time of my life.

Re: question for the women: TOM messed up?

Mine was fine for the first 6 or 7 months of Atkins. Then, when I'd kicked up my exercise, it started to become irregular--early one month, late the next. This past October I'd gotten down to my all-time lowest adult weight, and it was 3 weeks late before it finally showed up. This past month, again, back down to lowest weight, and it's 2 weeks late and counting...

In October I'd started teaching fitness classes so I was working out more. This past month, I've started training for a marathon. I am guessing my late period is due to losing body fat/increased exercise.

Re: question for the women: TOM messed up?

Normally, I'm very irregular, but this woe makes it almost like clockwork. That said, last month it was 2 days early and that never happens and now this month I'm about 3 days late. Could be Atkins, menopause, or ...

This is one of those questions that I was hoping someone would ask. Just finished my tom and found that it was super heavy. I started wondering if it was just me and aging or if it was low carbing. Good to know that I am normal.

Unfortunately I'm no help -- TOM arrived early this month.. not on any birthcontrol as I had my tubes tied years ago & TOM ALWAYS sticks around for little over week -- poor hubby It didn't start out too bad this time, actually didn't know I started, but couple of days latter the cramps hit hard... Luckily I should be hitting menopause soon so then hopefully TOM will go away (then I will just have other issues to complain about).

thanks for your experiences everyone! throughout the day i've gotten more crampy and the flow is starting to get heavier. i almost feel like i am just having a regular period now. rar. still going to take a test next week when it gets closer to my "real" tom.
