  • Starting Over

I started Atkins in 2006, lost about 14 pounds altogether then plateaued. Since then I have fallen off the wagon and gained a few, gotten back on and lost a few--yo yoing over and over with the same few pounds. I still need to lose bout 90 pounds so I decided to start over. On Monday-I started strict induction and have stayed on it so far. I have lost about 5 pounds which is great for me since I lose very slowly.

I am using fitday--which I didn't think I'd stick with as it is a bit time-consuming, but it gets a little bit addictive seeing all the information layed out. Anyway I thought I'd use it on day one to make sure I was doing o.k. but am currently on my fifth day of using it.

I would like to journal on this site as well, but don't really have the extra time to do both--wonder if there is a way to transfer my daily menu to this site. Any suggestions for a "low tech" person?

Also, even though I have lost weight, my ketosticks still only show a "trace" amount of ketosis. Any suggestions--I am getting in at least 30 minutes of walking in daily--can't really do anything more right now due to time constraints. I have been on induction for 5 days now.

I am sticking strictly to plan with the exception of caffeine. I have cut out diet soda's entirely but I really enjoy coffee. I normally drink it all day long but have cut back to a morning cup and an evening cup with my daily allotment of cream. The rest of the day I am using herbal tea if I feel I need something warm.

If I plateau--I may work harder to cut out the caffeine, but I already had a bad headache on Wednesday and didn't want to compound it. I am also afraid that because I normally drink a lot of caffeine, my metabolism will slow down drastically if I go cold turkey.

I am trying to go through all the veggies, especially the low glycemic ones, to get variety. I love fennel! I've never had it before and it is like very aromatic celery. Still have not found some of the items at the local grocery-but maybe some things are out of season--will continue hunting.

Just want to thank all of you who run this board. It is so inspiring and supportive and I hope that this time I will be sucessful.

    Thanks!

    Re: Starting Over

It sounds like your doing everything just right. Congratulations.
Dont worry about the ketostix, I went thru 2 bottles of them and never got them to register so I think they work for some but not all. And if they show any color what so ever they are working.
I never stopped my morning coffee. Its just something I can't or won't give up.
While I think journalling is important, I have a little book next to my bed and before lights out I grab it and write a couple lines in it. You don't have to do much, just stuff like what went right and what didn't go so well or if you liked the new recipe you tried, stuff like that.
Walking a half hour a day is perfect. We do what we can, when we can and add more if we can. Its getting into the habit thats whats important.

      Re: Starting Over

Biz Bee you can start two kind of journals.
Journal Stats where you post and everyone can read but nobody can respond to your posts. Most use that to report their food and thoughts.
Then there is Journal chats, where you post and we can all pop in and post and respond to JUST YOU AND YOUR STUFF.
That would be a great place to journal out your journey!
