  • Hi All...am restarting on 4/1. Just one question.

I started 1/1/08 at 242 lbs. Lost 24.5 total lbs in 31 days but got off the plan and having been wanting to restart since.

Now I've gained 8 lbs back and am more motivated than ever. Just got back from the grocery store and have a fully stocked fridge!

Just one quick question. I've read all posts the last couple of days but can seem to find any clarification. Is there any rhyme or reason as to who does or does not do well the second time around? Seems to me quite a few people have more trouble losing than they did the first time.

I think it depends on age, how much you have yo-yoed, how much you have to lose and other genetic factors. I don't think you'll know if that means you until you start! Even if it is harder this time around you can still do it and it sounds like you are really motivated! Good luck!!

I think you will find that it's all based on that person. The diet works, but working this diet is often quiet a challenge. I think there are times when we are so fed up we get on the plan and we soar and at other times we try to refocus and get on the plan and we keep stepping out side the boundaries and never get back into ketosis. Tho it takes 3 days to get there, I think with my body it takes a bit longer to feel the effects enough to stay there!

          Aloha,

I've had a number of false starts. Some of it is physical. Kicking carbohydrates is hard, especially in the first few days. It is so easy to make a minor cheat that may not seem like anything, but it will kick you straight out of ketosis.

But some of it really is a mental attitude. When I have been in a high stress mode I've found it hard to kick-start atkins. Once I am solidly on this WOE, then maintenance under stress is a lot easier.
When I don't have control over my surroundings (travel, schedule, etc) it is hard to be faithful.

I would recommend this: pre-plan for your induction time. Pick a time when you will have 3 days where it does not matter if you are grumpy or irritable. Get some time off of your other hyped up responsibilities. Recognize that you need this 'self-time' to quit an addiction.
Also, get other aspects of your life in order. Walk or exercise prior to the start. Have peace in your relationships (or call a truce).

The hardest part of this Atkins WOE is the first WEEK of induction. You need this to be a time when you are comfortable having this be about YOU.

          Peace and love!
