  • So Sick Of Meat

Getting bored. Can't even fathom putting meat in my mouth right now. Not eggs either. This morning for breakfast i had some berries and for lunch i was supposed to have hot wings and spaghetti squash...could only eat the squash. Anyone else have this problem? It's beginning to be difficult to do meal planning.

I get the same way. What rung are you on? Maybe there are protein substitutions you can make? Or sometimes when I add a food back into my diet it's enough of a change for me to get out of that funk, or a new recipe that's falvorful and different.

      I hope that helps.

I am on the other fruits rung. I tend eat very little of the upper rungs as i have noticed that i tend to get cravings back. Berries is about as far as i wander except for an occasional alcoholic beverage(less than 1X per 3 or 4 months) and sometimes sharing a granny smith apple. Diversifying my diet may help a bit and i might explore some with tofu. But i am concerned that my protien intake is low. I ate my berries with a bit of cream and my squash with a generous amount of butter, and i don't feel blood sugar spikey. I had sashimi yesterday which was a wonderful change but i certainly cannot afford that all the time. Unfortunately
I think i am going to go explore a bit at lindas site and see if i cannot find something that looks interesting.

I remember that last time round and found that experimenting with new dishes helped. Maybe post a 'what's for dinner?' thread to get some ideas.

I have just returned from vacation where I ate an omelet EVERY DAY (!!!)for breakfast. I can tell you that I won't be eating another for a very long time!

I often have something high in fat but with a different protein if I am bored of meat. TonightI had my favourite atkins meal of baked avocado with bacon and cream. It is high fat and high taste and gets you out of that meat and veg/salad routine.

I find that when I get a little bored I pick out some more expensive meat at the grocery store, maybe something already kinda prepared. At Trader Joe's I picked up some salmon that had been stuffed with feta cheese and spinach. It was about $8.50 for two large pieces and I just pan fried it in some grapeseed oil. It was delicious and a nice change.

BTW, I eat sashimi but only about once a month...$$$$!

I know exactly what you mean - I have been feeling like that lately.

I tend to mix in tofu (in smoothies for me, but others like it other ways). There is a thread on tofu in the food section. I'll did it out if you're interested or do a search.

I also eat Quorn which is a vegetarian meat substitute we have in the UK - not sure about other places. It's made of microprotein from mushrooms or funghi of some sort. It has some elements that may be higher rung but I've eaten it the whole time and it doesn't seem to affect me at all. Can you find similar things?

not big on the fungi But i will definitely be looking into my tofu options. i think i am going to do meatloaf this evening...my son has been asking. But i think i am also going to try to listen to my body. i think i am going to try to lower my portions of meat and up my low gi veggies.

argh, i ran into the same thing. ultimately, it sparks too many cravings for me. the most carby thing i can eat is cottage cheese with berries. i will never be a person who maintains on 50-150 net carbs a day. hang in there!

                      Re: So Sick Of Meat

I eat meat maybe once a week. Sometimes twice. Sometimes not at all. As for fish, I only like is smoked.

The rest of the time, my protein comes from veggies (you'd be suprised how much there is in them!) and eggs and dairy.

Eggs do not have to taste like eggs. If you make yourself a pumpkin dish using one or two eggs, they don't taste like eggs. You can make a crustless quiche with some interesting cheeses and veggies (water chestnuts are great!). I also occasionally make blintz loaf, which is 6 eggs, a small container of sour cream, a bit of splenda and some vanilla. Mix and bake until firm. Can be topped with berries. Small servings. Lots of protein.

Try fish. If you like unsmoked fish, you're in luck. But smoked fish and cream cheese on flax crackers is yummy. So is a smoked salmon omelette.

I know what it's like. If I had to eat meat daily i'd vomit. I only eat it when I really really feel like it.

Do you eat tuna? I can have tuna and cucumbers for breakfast every day! Well, for any meal, but I try to take that to work instead so I can cook at night when I have more time for it and add in a salad.
