  • Im back again with a new neck and a nonsmoker!

Hi to everyone. I used to be on here alot and did alot of posts. I made so many friends and learned so much about the Atkins way of life. I have read DANDR and referred to it frequently when I was doing Atkins Induction. During my time on Induction, I decided to try and give up smoking. I quickly become overwhelmed and consumed on not be able to quit. Eventually I left the forum and went back to my old ways of eating.

I quit smoking on February 12, 2008. That was the day I went in to have my cervical spine completely rebuilt. C2/C3 were completely shattered and C5, C6, and C7 were compressing my spinal cord. I was lucky and had the best neurosurgeon. He did a great job and continues to do a great job with me. I spent 9 days in the hospital before I came home. I spent 16 days unable to eat because of ulcers on my tongue. But out of a horrible situation, I became a non-smoker. I had always said "If I could stop smoking, I could reach any goal".

Well now Im back and this time my daughter (who just had a baby) will be joining the group. Her name on here will be Lyric'sMommy. We are both really excited to begin the Atkins way of life.

Hi tulsanurse..That is exactly what I've done over the past few year's!..You've had quite a few obsticle's, and I congratulate you for quitting, plus taking on Atkin's at the same time!..I've tried taking both on and found it very overwhelming.. I've been consumed with my weight & smoking for year's! and I am sooo tired of it!! my head need's a rest! So here I am again & I decided i was going to make myself accountable this time with my weight issue and tackle my smoking once I start losing some weight, and once I do, then I'll start to like myself much better than I do now and have the same attitude you do, that if I can reach the weight loss goal, then I can reach any goal!!

You hang in there & keep on keeping on with both!. You're strong already, I can see that, and to have your daughter join you here, is even more motivation for you!.. leen

Something that helped with my smoking is an incredible book that someone from told me about. It called "The easy way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr. For anyway contemplating giving up smoking for good, this book was a God Send.

Hey, tulsa. Would you believe that I was just thinking about you the other day? In fact I found one of your old posts and looked you up to see when you last posted. Noticed it'd been a while. I think the reason you stood out in my mind was, first....you asked a lot of questions and really wanted to do it right, and two...we had simliar stats.
Anyway, welcome back and congrates on quitting smoking. I quit smoking about 5 years ago (has it been that long ). It took a stay in the hospital and a very supportive husband to help me see the light. Good to have you back.
My doctor told me to stop having intimate dinners for four. Unless there are three other people.

I'm real curious about the book now, as I've heard of other's say this book really helped them to quit

Welcome back! I remember you well. Congrats on quitting smoking! I opted for surgery on other body parts to keep from having surgery on my cervical spine. I am now able to exercise again after being forbidden for close to a year.

Congrats on the new grandbaby and welcome to your daughter.

Thanks everyone for all the support. Im on the third day of induction and am just waiting for the energy high I remember, lol. I miss all that energy. Im starting back to work but so far can only do 6 hours. At that point, Im hurting pretty bad so I come home, take a Lortab and then lay down. Im not exercising and I know I should be, if nothing else, just a walk for 20 minutes. Everyday is getting better but Im very impatient and want my neck to feel like it did before it fell apart. Im so sick of taking lortab but it beats the oxycontin and fentanyl I was on. Right now Im taking 2 Lortab 7.5mg about 3-4 times a day. Im really worried that this will affect my weight loss. The great thing is Im sticking to Induction even though last night I would beat willy wonka down for a piece of chocolate lol.
