  • Is this normal? Help, I need reminders & motivations, please...

So I'm back after a year... I keep going back to Atkins. I believe it works, because the first time I went on Atkins, I lost almost 35lbs. I got lazy and started eating again...

I love desserts, junk food, cakes, chocolate, etc... what happened?

Well, I balooned back, of course. I go back again to Atkins and I would loose a few lbs, then I'd get lazy again (sigh) . I gained so much weight and I am now 165lbs. I'm 5'3 and I used to be 110lbs, but now... I'd be happy if I'm 135lbs.

I'm back . I started Atkins again on April 15th, but I'm still the same size. I keep checking my scale, and I keep going down, then up on my weight.

A week ago, I was 158.5, then now I'm at 163 ... My clothes don't seem to be loose and I can't tell the difference. Last week, I did "cheat" and ate one whole mango all by myself. It was sooo good, but I felt bad for "cheating" ...

When I succesfully lost weight the first time, (during induction phase) I lost about 10 lbs, I feel like I have not lost any weight this third time around, nor do I feel like my clothes are starting to fit better. I don't see any difference

I do feel good about not eating any carbs, no starch, no bread, no pasta, no rice... but I'm still the same size

Can someone tell me if this is normal during the induction phase to not loose so much weight? Is this possible? I don't think I'm doing anything wrong... I've been eating well and have followed the induction phase carefully. Any suggestions? Please help...

    Thanks!

I would suggest posting a day's menu on the Review My Menu thread.

    http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...splay.php?f=50

Do you have a copy of the 2002 version on Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution? Read the book & keep it handy for reference. Also read the stickies on all the different threads~~~fantastic information. Stick to the foods on the Induction list of foods per Dr. A.

Post often, ask questions, start a journal & join a challenge or two. Check out the Second Time Around Club~~~a great group of people!!

    Good luck in your journey!

Yes, definitely post a menu and try putting your food choices into fitday.com. You may be getting sneaky carbs that you're not aware of or it could be other things you're not thinking of. I didn't lose anything and wasn't in ketosis for the first two weeks or so because I was eating too much cheese. Once I fixed that it starting working for me. Good luck!

Could you have become metabolic resistant since last time around? Has anything else changed in your life, like new meds?
One of the times I went back on Atkins after carb-loading, I "only" lost 2 pounds in 14 days, and I had more than 100 pounds to lose at that time....I don't know if it would have changed, because I gave up and gained more weight! Don't do that! I'm pretty sure you will loose more weight if you just keep going....Good luck! And report back how you are doing!

Okay, you say you're not doing anything wrong, but then you also said that you ate an entire mango. THAT type of behavior is what's keeping you from enjoying the full benefits of the plan. The only way for the plan to work is to follow the plan. Every time you let just one "little" slip, then you take yourself back to square one.

Commit to following the plan for two weeks. Just two weeks. Don't eat anything that isn't on the induction allowed list. Plan your meals in advance and then STICK TO THEM. You can even come here and have us review your meal plan in advance so that you KNOW you're going to be eating the right things.

I have confidence this can work and that you can do this! Induction is only for the first two weeks.

Oh, and by the way....I *LOVE* mangoes and occasionally miss them....but, believe me when I tell you that I *LOVE* being thin much much much more than I love a mango.

Eat Happy - you can do this! Besides the mango, did you go off plan? What is your typical day like? Hidden sugar or carbs in any foods? Exercise? Water?

You can do this! Glad you are back!!!

Welcome back. I know it's frustrating but your body may not be reacting to Atkins the way it did the first time. Your body gets used to yo-yo dieting. If you were on atkins then off then on then off, etc. your body is going to get used to that. It might just take a little longer for your body to go into Ketosis. Stick with it! You can do it! This WOL works!! There are so many success stories on the board. Just stay strong. I know first hand how hard it is to not cheat, just remember the next time temptation strikes how crummy you felt for cheating with that mango. It's time to pick up the pieces, move on, and stay strong! Good luck!

The first time around I got 20lbs off before I went off and did my own thing. but while I was doing my own thing I was still fully aware of "carbs" and when pizza was served I would have a whole piece and then the 2nd piece I would eat the toppings...............Now that I am doing Atkins again, I don't expect as large of a drop as the first time around, because even though I wasn't doing atkins, I was still practicing some of the methods......................does that make sense?

So hang in there and keep it going....................don't give up! We know it works and that is why we are back for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th times of doing atkins!

Hey, every time we are a little older and more resistant. I am losing at 1/3 the pace I lost at last time and I am not cheating at all. So know you are in for the long hall, and know that a sugar spike like a mango means starting over from square one with a whole new induction. You will get there but remind yourself that maybe the mango wasnt worth the cost and next time if you have to have it, have one bite not the whole thing. (HUG)

-check your labels for hidden sugars
                        -are you exercising at all?
-try to find low carb alternatives to the things you really
like to eat and have them on hand at all times to prevent "cheats"
remember, the body is really smart. If you keep losing and gaining then it grows accustomed to the pattern and it tends to become harder to lose when you buckle down. Make a decision that Atkins is going to be your way of life, not a means to lose some weight. When you look at it like that, you might not have moments when you backslide as much. You can lose the weight....I wish you all the best!

Re: Is this normal? Help, I need reminders & motivations, please...

5 or 6 years ago I took off 80+ lbs on Atkins. I was amazed at how easy it came off. I screwed up though and put it back on, hanging w/depression & too stubborn to ask for help when I needed it. Long story short, I tried a half dozen times to get back on track w/o carbs over the course of several years. I couldn't get it to click, no way in Hades was Atkins going to help me a bit. I gave it a break because I didn't have the persistence to hang in there & do it right ( or at least as right as I could handle <gotta have my diet sodas & a few low carb beers here and there >
This time I was persistent and watched every possible carb, actually I'm probably not getting my allowed 20 in each day.
Today is day 12 & I bought the keto sticks and show Lg80 so it's working well. Looking back I know I didn't watch myself close enough then. Hidden carbs were the death of me.
Hang Tough & although it's a tougher road for some after multiple times on Atkins, it'll kick & then it'll all be worth the wait.

Sorry, I posted on the wrong thread...again my bad
