  • Baby Shower

I just began back with lower carbs, I'm already feeling better and don't want to mess this up again.

I have a baby shower to go to on Sunday... and I just found out she is making lasagna..... so what do I do? I know, eat ahead of time but what do I say when I just have the soda/water? Usually they will serve salad also, but I know the recipe for "greek" salad is with sugar....

This is a family function. One of my cousins has lost about 50 lbs on low carb and they understand but she is at the point where she takes off for these occasions.

Could you offer to bring something to help the cook? then make it a atkins smart dish.

I like keystonejae's idea. Also if they question just tell them you are doing what your cousin did to lose weight you just aren't in the same place as her. They should understand. Don't feel bad to stand up for yourself and just say I can't have that. Good Luck and Stay strong!

Thanks! I don't plan on eating there, I'll keep myself moving around the room and talking or something! LOL

I find saying I seem to have developed a gluten problem works well (better than "I'm on a diet"). Vague references to unpleasant effects on your GI tract often do the trick! Then you can offer to bring something that works for you & that others will enjoy, like a salad with lots of different veggies & proteins and maybe some devilled eggs.
          cheers,

            Re: Baby Shower

You know those are the harder times when ur invited to a function....I would recommend all that was said by other posters but if ur strong enough u might just put some lasagne on ur plate and make sure they see u takin it so they know ur eating and then just pick out the ground beef pieces and eat them...no one will really pay that much attention. Then put it down and grab some water... as long as u look like ur eatng and drinkng....sayin something sometimes makes u catch too much attention then u'd like and then they might pressure u to eat saying to u "just this once".

Thanks so much for your suggestions!!

I'm going to have a nice big salad before I go and if I need to take something I will and eat the beef etc....

This week has gone so well so far, day 4 and I feel good! I know there will always be functions, I just want to be on a higher rung when I'm tempted again! LOL

I'm happy that you've decided to stay committed...that's hugely important. I'd eat a large meal before the baby shower. What I love about this WOL is that now I'm focused on the people instead of the food.

Yes , some of my worst backslides started at this kind of function when I wasnt firmly committed to putting myself first and had "just a little" of a carb laden food
