Hi Guys
Thanks for your lovely messages and PMs.
As you may know, my Dad was admitted to hospital on Monday 28 April after severe leg pain. 24 hours later he was moved to the ICU with multiple organ failure. His condition was critical. On the Wednesday they put him in a medically induced coma.
It was all looking very bleak but then they aspirated his hip (replacement) and found the source of the infection. Even the 4mls they removed allowed the anti-biotics to get on top of the infection and he improved day by day.
Yesterday when i visited he was taking every breath himself and at 7pm he went to surgery and apparently is still stable.
Today, they are planning to take him off the ventilator/life support and stop the sedation. It is truly amazing and the doctors and nurses also seem amazed by his progress.
I can't wait to see him open his eyes but have been told it could take a couple of days as he is on strong pain meds following the op.
He is certainly not out of the woods but I think they now expect him to keep on improving and make a recovery.
I will update this thread in a few days.

Hi Guys
It's been a worrying few days. He did not tolerate the ventilator in his throat when they took him off sedation and would not wake enough for them to take it out so they decided to do a tracheotomy yesterday. I spoke to the hospital this morning and he is apparently smiling at the nurses and has woken reasonably well. He is still on the ventilator but they do not expect that for the long term.
The infection is under control but they expect he will need anti-biotics for at least a month.
He is still on kidney dialysis.
We are taking it one day at a time. I am looking forward to seeing him at 2.15pm and hoping he will recognise me and be pleased to see me.
