Re: Why does eating any kind of meat without carbohydrates make me sick?

    Seriously??

Then quit making excuses and get to WORK! Losing weight takes work, hard flipping work, patience, and determination. You have the determination down - you want to lose weight - THEN DO IT! Look, none of us knows your situation, how many "diets" you've tried, etc.. What we DO know is that in order for anything to work, you have to stick with it. Got cravings? Suck it up. Eating whatever you want at the time you want it doesn't make for good weight loss.

Losing weight and struggling sucks - it frigging sucks. I think it's downright odd and almost entertaining that you are checking out the pro-ana sites. Dang, they've really got something there - not eating= weight loss, how novel. They look awesome too. I love the look of bones protruding from underneath thin skin - how sexy is that?? Not to mention if you're really cool, you can add a little scarf and barf to your regime - you know, kick it up a bit. Then, you'll end up with a killer set of beautiful decayed choppers - AWESOME!

Look, I don't understand what you're looking for here. I don't think anyone is going to tell you to starve and hurt yourself. Losing weight can be done. Quit making excuses and looking for a quick fix and just do it.

    Best to you-

I am a pre-med student too, and I just don't understand why anyone in a pre-med program would want to starve themselves. It goes against everything learned in college/prep classes/med programs. It's like you're throwing away all that money spent on tuition. As learned in ethics class, you are being unethical to yourself. And it is very mean of you to say "but if you are fat you are already dead" There are many overweight people on these boards and that is very offensive. There are people on here trying to help you, give you suggestions, but you clearly don't want help. Why, I ask, are you still on this board if you do not want our help?

If you read the previous posts you would have seen that I was trying Atkins for the last time. And being a premed I also know the health risks of being fat. FAT FAT FAT. Who cares if I use that word; do you hate it that much? No one wants to be fat.

          Seriously... I'm dead serious.
Suck it up? It is not just cravings, it is being ill after eating only meat and low carbs. Cravings eventually go away. Suck it up, that is the last thing a fat person should be doing. I obviously don't visit the same pro ana sites as you, because the ones I visit have perfectly healthy looking people. My initial question was whether or not anyone had heard if going an x amount of days without food would lead to significant weight loss. I actually found my answer elsewhere. As for why I am on the board, I was trying to try the diet again for the last time and I was looking for ways to make the ill feeling go away. I keep getting messages in my inbox from this board so maybe I will stop responding to them. No excuses here. I've already made my decision and nothing is easy; I was never looking for easy or I wouldn't have chosen the route I did.
I won't post to this board any more.
          Goodbye

Rather than fixate on details of a diet plan or the foods allowable, I suggest you read, other than Atkin's, something more along the lines of this:

Michael Pollan - In Defense of Food It helps to make sense of the conflicting information about the foods we eat.
In a nutshell "Eat (real) food, not too much, mostly plants."

And I'd also suggest something along the lines of:
Amazon.com: Against the Grain: How Agriculture Has Hijacked Civilization: Richard Manning: Books
This type of book deals with the evolutionary diet of humans. It gives a perspective on why we store fat and what we should be eating. Our food supply is cheap crap for the most part. Humans are not meant to be fat, sloth-like creatures. We are supposed to be thin, muscular and healthy.

I've posted this before but in our home we avoid processed food of any kind. We don't eat industrialized foods or fats. We eat a lot of salads, vegetables, protein (various sources), fruits and nuts. Nothing comes from a box and we try to avoid all grains and most dairy.

To lose weight and get healthy I think the best advise comes from, Cool Hand Luke, "You got to get your mind right."

            TWS

ps. If you do decide to starve (don't do it!) for a month or so please check in here and report your progress. Not so much during or immediately after but in a couple of weeks afterwards. I'm interested in the role of the enzyme, lipoprotein lipase, in rapid weight gain after a low-calorie regimen.

I'll keep you posted, but you might be sorely disappointed since I don't ever expect to go back to eating the same again. I can give you plenty of data about rapid weight gain after a low-carb diet. I think there is a misconception here. This isn't a quick fix. I was assured that one can lose half of his/her body weight after going 40 days without food. Most people know that you don't go back to eating whatever after that.
Some one mentioned "Atkin's flu", but I haven't found much on it. I do believe Atkins works if one can stomach that much meat. Atkins makes sense and seems to be the only diet that ever helped me lose weight. I want to do Atkins, but I end up in a lot of pain, irritable, shaky and I feel like I am being poisoned. I have taken blood purifiers and digestive enzymes to aid in getting rid of that feeling. It doesn't work. It didn't start with Atkins; I've never done well with meat. The books look interesting; I'll check them out.

I'm not going to bother replying to the op here, since she's said she's left, and didn't seem to want help anyway...but

I saw the Michael Pollan In defense of food link and just needed to add my 2 cents. I'm actually going to pick this book up after having read a 12 page article he wrote for the NY Times, very good advice:

Not a pro atkins article or anything, but he really has some good thoughts on whole foods and the food industry etc...a long read but an excellent one.

                Thanks for posting TWS.

To the op if you're still here,
What do you nomally eat on a day to day basis? (when you're not dieting). I would think about that and think about ways you can make that kind of food low carb. It can be done
You have gotten some good advice here. I do hope you will keep us posted on what you finally decide to do and how it's working for you.
                  Take care,

                        Sadie,
You are welcome and thank you for this link. There is a lot of information there, 12 pages worth! I've got his basic rules for food (pages 11 & 12) on the 'fridge.

If you have an interest in that book you may want to look for this one, as well. The Omnivore's Dilemma:

I first heard M. Pollan on NPR talking about the problems with our corn-based diets/food industry. This is a quick review, only 2 pages!

I think this is an excellent point to pull out this post from the FAQ section http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...predators.html

When people come here seeking attention rather than help, it's best to just let it go so hopefully this will be the end of it. Continually giving the attention the person is seeking will only make things worse. We can only do so much
