  • Need your suport....please!!

    It has been awhile since I have posted and I feel like I have let my self down so much. I lost 26 lbs when I first started, gained about 6 back. I feel like being so hard on myself is making it harder to get back on the wagon. I know this works, I know I can do it. I just feel like such a failure. Like everyone I know is watching me mess up another diet.

    How do I just except what I have done and move on. Pick up my book, look at the great before and after pics and belief in myself again. I am sorry if I am sounded sad I just don't want to talk to my family or b/f about this. I feel like I have let them down as well.

    I am going to work through this and thanks for listening. I will start again tomorrow and try to use this board more and take advantage of what is here.

    Hello Niki,
    I understand how frustrating it can get when we get off track. I've been on the Atkins Lifestyle for nearly four years and beleive me, I have had my moments too. The best advice I can give you is to focus more on the health benifits that Atkins has to offer rather than just the weightloss. We have to re-program the way we think to be successful.
    As long as you make sure that the next thing you stick in your mouth is Atkins friendly, then you're well on your way of getting back on track. Think about what it was that threw you off course. Was it cravings? Do you crave sweets? What is it that's throwing you off? Once you figure out that, and find out what it is that can help you from preventing it from happening again. Then you'll most likely be able to detour it from happening in the future.
    When I use to have cravings for sweets, I took L-Glutamine. It will help you with sweet cravings and take them away. I no longer eat sweetners or foods that contain them. That stopped all cravings all together. I'm a sugar addict and I can not eat anything with sweetners. I can eat fresh berries and cantalope. They do not create cravings.
    It's really important to surround yourself with as much support as possible. Get involved in your weightloss plan. Learn as much as you can about Low Carbing and the health benifits that go along with it. That's what I did. You see, Since on Atkins, I have reversed my Type-2 Diabetes, kicked my high blood pressure to the curb and have a much healthier blood chemistry. That's what keeps me going. I know if I revert to my old eating habits that all those things will come back to me. I'm not up for that!
    You are a much healthier person by eating the Atkins way. Weightloss is just one of the wonderful benifits to Atkins. There's a much bigger picture to just losing weight. It's a lifestyle, not a diet. A lifestyle for life.
    Hang in there sweetie. It really does get easier. You are worth working towards a healthier you. Don't compare your weightloss with anyone elses. We are all very unique in how we lose weight on Atkins. It's all a learning process.

      I've said it before and I'll say it again:

      You will do this.

      You came here for support and the board has plenty to offer.

      This has helped me not cheat yet:

      check in at rollcall every morning, make a list of every Atkins-friendly food you like to eat (main dishes, side dishes, snacks) and post it on your fridge... Remember it takes 28 days to form a habit? Go to Walgreen's get a posterboard and number it BIG starting with 28 counting down to 1 and buy some stickers and for every successful day you make it through put a sticker over the numbers. When you get to 1, buy yourself something nice (not food) and then buy another posterboard.

      (That helped me get back on track.)

      And I will see you at rollcall every morning!!!

      Don't beat yourself up over the past, it's in the past. Cherish the fact that you came back.

        Everyone falls down, doing so doesn't make you a failure. I have to admit that I felt something really warm in my heart when I got such positive responses to my post. I guess what I'm trying to say is we're all in this together. Hug yourself, love yourself, and let's do this!

          Thank you, thank you everyone!!!

          I am going to print off your replies and carry them with me and make my lists of food, join in roll call and stop going over every mistake that I have made. I am going to set up mini goals with rewards for myself.

          I am going to give l- glutamine a try. I do find myself missing sweet foods. I am going to think about how good I feel when I make it through a day eating healthy. How good I will feel when I make it to my goal, that will be one special day!

            Pick your head up and give us all a hug! YOU CAN DO THIS! You have all of our support and guidance.
            I too feel like a failure. This is my third time on Atkins, but this time I refuse to fail! I am doing it this time. It's hard, but I know I can. I was had lost 45 pound in 5 weeks once before. I've gained about 15 pounds back! So, enough is enough! Together, we can all do this.

              Life is about progression not perfection.

              You fell off ... take note as to what happened and try to learn from it. Think about what your goal is and make sure that you realize that you getting to goal weight is much more important that filling that craving. Its all mental. Dont make excused. Realize that it was bad and some up with a strategy to not do it again.

              The diet works ... but you need to follow it. Dont eat the apple. Easier said than done and it is only you that can learn to focus on what is important. This is really true about everything in life, not just this diet. Keep focused, keep on the planned track, realize what is a distraction and what is helping you, focus on the positives, filter out the negatives. Also realize who your real friends are and those that may be jealous of your progress.

                    Niki I am in the same spot. I did really well with it, fell off, then have let myself down over and over getting back on track. I feel like it doesn't help when I am having to be the motivation behind my family to stay fit because none of them seem to care. It makes it easy to let myself not care. But last week I just fell apart and said I was tied of always getting so close to my goals than letting them slip away. It is time I finish something. Let me know if you'd like to keep in touch to try to stay motivated.

                      We are all in the same boat as you. We know this way works but we fell for the carbs again anyway. Be proud of yourself that you caught it before you gained it all back and that you are here and willing to help yourself. What a HUGE accomplishment!!

                        I used to feel like a failure when I would go off and gain, but I have taken a different view lately. I lost 70 pounds and did a lot of hard work. Over the past two years I have had a lot of changes and stress in my life and I gained 20 back. But I don't feel like I failed. I feel like life temporarily hijacked my priorities. And I woke up and said OK time to get back on track. I was gone but I am here now, in my head. End of story. No recriminations, no regrets, no self-flagellation.

                        You got sidetracked. But hey, you are here now. Celebrate the fact that you have found your way back and instead of worrying about how bad you have been, think about how lucky you are to have stopped yourself and gotten back on target again. Celebrate each and every hour you make it without cheating. Reward yourself in some way for each day (a bubble bath, a new book to read, anything but food) that you succeed. End each week with--I made through last week, I can do it again. And if you have a bad day, well, it was one bad day. Let it stay there. You CAN do this!! (HUG)
