  • ? About Sticks

Okay, I usually never go by the ketone sticks, but just out of curiousity, I did the little test, and mine showed up the darkest purple! Been that way for two straight days. I read somewhere on the thread, that it's not really good to be that dark. Means you are deydrated or something. I'm drinking lots of water, basically just eating eggs, bacon, cheese or fresh raw vegetables with Ranch Dressing. Is it a bad thing?

How much is "lots of water"? Seems like you are consuming lots of salty foods, is this all you are eating?

i think you're doing fine. perhaps eat less dairy and more veggies? but i think you said you weren't that hungry, right? keep on drinking that water too.

i was in dk. purple ketosis yesterday too, and it's only day 2. i think this could actually be good news for us, misty. as in, we're not metabolically resistant. yippee! if we keep at it, the pounds will come off.

      just keep yourself hydrated.

If you are using the sticks first thing in the morning that could be a reason why as your urine is more concentrated then. Try them at a different time.

I think so too Lulubell. I can't stand salty foods. I pat down the bacon to get the extra grease off. I also have only one or two slices a day, and I'm eating plenty of vegetables. I went through over a gallon of cold water yesterday. I actually did the test three times throughout the day, and they all came back darkest purple. So, maybe that is a good sign for both of us!! Yiiipppeee!!! But, I usually never go by that, I go by the scales and how I feel.
I couldn't help but weigh myself again, darnit! I have lost a total of 6 pounds, and this is only day 3 for me. When I was on Atkins before, I lost alot of weight pretty quick, around 45 pounds in 5 weeks, so I tend to lose about a pound a day. In no time we shall reach our goal Lulubell!! ( big hugs )

I actually tested three times, in the morning, afternoon, and before bed. They all came back a darkest purple. I'm drinking lots of water, and eating vegetables. I went through the Induction Flu the first two days. I prepared my body a few days before and cut way back on sugars and carbs, to get a bit of a head start. The scales went down 6 pounds in 2 days, so I'm doing pretty good so far.

I drank a little over a gallon of water yesterday, which is good considering I'm not much of a water drinker. I ate some cheese, maybe 2 or 3 small cubes, a slice of bacon pat down to drain some of the grease. I also ate 1 deviled egg, and ate some vegetables, like radishes, carrots cucumbers and celery slices with dressing on some. I did my menu of FitDay, and I actually only consumed less then 4 carbs on both days. It was hard for me to eat, for I was feeling so sick to my stomach and the thought of food made me sick. I am doing much better today, and making baked chicken with some broccoli for lunch, then I'm having a chef salad for supper. Lots of water in between, because I am actually craving water today and my mouth is very dry.

wow, misty! 45 pounds in 5 months! super!

hey, i just had a thought that could possible explain the thirst and dk. purple ketostick. are you diabetic? if so, please, please, tell your doc that you are ding this diet. i wouldn't want you to have any complications, although this diet is like one of the best diets for diabetics, it's just important to let your doc know.

                  Re: ? About Sticks

This happened to me twice. Both times I was consistently drinking over 3 liters of water a day. Once was when I started swimming and walking. The second time is now. I recently upped my fats because I felt I wasn't getting enough fats and was having too much protein. That might have something to do with it. We always ask about the water intake first, though, as that is the most common reason it is like that. When it happened the first time, it eventually calmed down as my body got used to the exercise. Since this one just started, I will just have to wait and see.

I have also had a problem with eating too few carbs sometimes and I had to institute carbs in avocado and other that are on the list or special foods. Not over doing, but it helps add up. I had to do it this way becuase I just didn't feel like eating and couldn't eat a higher volume of food.

Good luck and always, it doesn't hurt to see your doctor.

                    Re: ? About Sticks

Thanks for the advice **Porcelain** I will keep that in mind. Sometimes it's hard for me to consume 20 carbs a day. I do eat, but the carbs are low, and sometimes I'm just not hungry, but know that I have to eat something for my body might go into "starvation mode", and I don't want that. I will be on Extended Induction for a few months, and will probably add an avacado in every now and then when my carb intake is far too low. I remember eating up to 40 carbs a day, and still losing rapidly.

                    **Lulubell**
Nope, I'm not diabetic, thank goodness. So, no problems there. Actually, I have no health problems, I'm pretty healthy for being over weight. Yes, 45 pounds in 5 weeks! I know I may not reach that goal this time, or who knows, I might pass that amount in 5 weeks, and I may not. I know that everybody is different. What works for others, may not work on someone else. We all know that. I am pretty excited about this, for this is my final time being on Atkins, because I will lose these pounds off my behind!....lol....
My first goal is to weigh 200 pounds by my 35th birthday, October 3rd. So, that leaves me with 62 pounds to lose in about 4 months. I will not cheat, and will stick to it, and if I only lose 10 pounds per month, then that's great, if more is lost, then that's great too! Once I have reached that goal of 200, then I will have about 40 more to go until my final goal. But, I am taking it 10 pound loss at a time, because trying to lose over 100 pounds is alot and can be discouraging. But, I can and will succeed!! I have all the support I need here, and my family's support.
