  • June 4, Roll Call

Good morning STACers. I noticed yesterday as I read who posted what, that alot of you are on your second or third day of induction. Alot are in the same boat. Well I have a few thoughts about this...

#1 Please take your measurements, with a ketogenic diet we burn fat, and it changes the proportions of our body. We do loose weight, but not at the same pace as we morph. Measurements will show you that you are indeed responding.

#2 Exercise will cause you to build muscle and make the scales look like they are not changing at all....

#3 Your body will try and hold on to the weight and alot of people drop out frustrated with how slowly their bodies are responding THIS TIME...

For me low carb is the only way to go! Not only do I loose weight, but I feel darn great. I believe it's the feeling great that brings me back. This time I've been on a 2 yr stretch, because I've finally learned this is the only way. When I stray off, which is not often, I come back, because it's not about weightloss as much as feeling great.

Patience is the key. It takes days for our bodies to get settled and start showing off results. For me, if I am not careful, I will want to quit because I can't have what I want fast enough.

It takes 3 days for your body to flip the switch to fat burning. It now takes me 5 days to see my sticks turn color. I've learned this about my body and I just focus on completing the committments of the day...I have focused on WHAT my body does and WHEN, so I can sustain my attitude and efforts.

We pay attention to the rules of the diet, and the foods we eat, but the most successful people here also watch how they respond and are patiently learning their bodies, and want to be here in the long term. THERE IS SO MUCH MORE TO THIS THAN JUST WEIGHT LOSS. If you don't do the right mental prep work, and follow through and focus on food issues, you will not make it last. Because after induction comes Ongoing Weightloss and the whole Rung system, and then Pre Maint. Then the real challenges begin, making this a lifestyle and keeping with in 5 pounds of goal. To me, the real heart ache and head aches begin THERE....keeping what we work so hard for....It's a long journey and having a great attitude of sustaining yourself for the long haul is a smart move.

Good morning. Yes, it's a long journey. My weight loss this year has been dismal. I rarely cheat with illegal food, but I think my problem is portion control. I'm a slow learner in this regard, I guess, but I'm slowly getting it! LOL! Persistence definitely pays off, and if nothing else, I'm stubborn.

Last night I went bra shopping (for two long hours) and I'm a size smaller but a cup bigger. Go figure! I don't care about cup size, I'm just happy to be down in the number. Now I have to go find a tight shirt to wear today!!!

Awesome posts to start the day.

I'll admit I've been doing Atkins my way... I'm going to reread the book (for the 5th time?) and do it by the book, because I am getting more mature about how I'm looking at the diet this time... I don't plan on going ANYWHERE. So, I might as well do it EXACTLY as Dr. A says to...

I hope everyone has a great Wednesday!

good morning. i completely agree jess. this subject is completely current and something i've been dealing with over the last few months. i just posted a few before and "during" pictures on the summer swimsuit challenge. the scale has not MOVED in months, yet my body is slowly changing shape and very slowly getting smaller. so weird, and i almost don't want to believe it could happen..but it does. so for those who think nothing is happening because the scale isn't moving-don't be fooled.

anyways..hubby and i are leaving town tonight to head back to michigan. we have a wedding this weekend and i am bridesmaid so we have a few wedding festivities to attend before saturday. fun fun! this was sort of that "goal" day that i had in mind, everytime i wanted to cheat, give up, stop working out, i would almost be chanting to myself "YOU NEED TO FIT IN THAT DRESS YOU NEED TO FIT IN THAT DRESS". i am content with where i have come, but do wish things moved along faster.

enjoy the day! i might be mia the next few, but i will be thinking of everyone!

Morning ladies ( and any fellas who may join in)

Timely post Jess and very supportive...thanks! Yesterday I found an old post of mine from last year when I was feeling particularly positive and it was like hitting the re-set button! Then your post this morning just backed it up...this way of eating is all about the feeling good part for me too. Energy, a feeling of well-being and clarity.

Have a good day everyone...make it a good one even if it doesn't feel like it will be when the day begins....

                  Morning all!

Feeling groovy this morning. Heading off for Spin Class. Tonight, I also have Boot Camp class. I'll probably regret taking two hard classes in one day, but shoot, never hurts to try (ok, maybe it will hurt my bootie - in that case, bring it on!! )

Dreary day, hanging out with the children of the corn indoors today...

Hope everyone has a super fantastic day!!!

Jess, I feel your post has fallen down from heaven for me. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! This is my second week in induction and I was a bit discouraged because of the results, as, like you state, I have had better results with a regular diet. What kept me on track inspite of my lack of motivation? The wonderful feeling not being hungry most of the time and not craving for sweets!! I am SO happy to have the control now over my eating behavior. I am so thrilled that I have to cybershout loud - I HAVE THE CONTROL! Being said this, I know I wont give up because as you said, this is my only way to reach my goal while feeling great and being famished. Reading you guys and seeing the bf/af pix is also a motivation influx.

We are gonna make it, dudes and dudettes!

                        Re: June 4, Roll Call

Good morning ladies! Thanks for the replies yesterday regarding the MIL and nephew coming in next week. One thing I worry about as far as everyday cooking for the family, with the kids is eatting such fattening foods, adding bread and other carbs wouldn't be very healthy. My 16 year-old daughter already has weight issues as well but doesn't seem to care so I don't push her too much (such a fine line between wanting her to be healthy and not wanting her to have body issues so as long as it seems under control, I try to keep quiet.) Anyway, that doesn't really matter as far as the short time while the company is here, but curious your thoughs on long-term family meals?

I am not sure if it's the Atkins kicking in already but I am finding that I already have more energy. That is a definate plus! My husband even asked what was up with me last night because I was still fully awake at the time I am usually dragging. I still slept great though. LOVE it!

I admit I am totally a slave to the scale so I've got to work on that. I will sometimes weigh 2 or 3 times a day and let it affect my moods. It's hard to not be afraid that it won't work when you're hopes are so high that this might be what finally helps you lose weight. I know that I did well last year and lost 18 lbs but then it stopped for a long time and I quit. I know, bad...not this time.

                        Pam

Jess: Thank you so much for that post. I actually responded before I read it so thought it was funny that some of the challenges I wrote about you addressed so well. I did Atkins with a friend last time and one thing we both loved about it then is how much I learned about food, the body's reactions to it, MY body's reactions, what works and what feels good. I just have to have faith - a hard thing for me in all areas but I'm trying.

                          Great post Jess!

Day three for me...migraine is gone and starting to feel a little energy. Appetite is starting to go already so will have to keep and eye on that as I had to work hard to keep my calories up last time. Was so strange to be eating 1800-2100 calories and still lose weight! Gotta love it.

                          Be a good day!!

good morning all, getting a later start today. had really bad thunderstorms last night and stayed up pretty late listening to news and weather radios. weather radio was going off all night after went to bed too, so wasn't a very restful sleep. it's day 3 for me, and am still chugging along. yesterday i was kinda disappointing as far as exercise goes, because of weather i couldn't walk outside, but found other ways to get some walking in. there is still some bad weather coming through today, but hopefully will be clear by this afternoon and will be able to get in my walk in later in the day, if not i am going step up my calistenics(sp?).

hope all of you have a good day.
