  • Good News! And REALITY

    Aloha STACers!

As you may have noticed from my spotty posts, I've been less than faithful this past month. I went on a strict induction, and stayed close to induction for almost 3 months.... with very little weight loss. This really puzzled me because I'm at an all-time (non-pregnant) weight high, and I had previously lost so much weight on Atkins. How could I be failing so miserably when I tried so hard!!

I started thinking that I might have a medical issue. I also put a pause on my focus to finish a stressful project and take a massive trip to present the results (2 nights on a plane to get there kind of travel).

Well, I'm home and the project is complete. Yippie!!
I also just got back from the doctors. My bloodwork was great. Metabolism is excellent, no issues with anemia, thyroid, blood sugar, etc. My cholesterol is very healthy. My blood pressure is low and great. Everything is outstanding. Praise God.

Only one flaw.... I'm 40 pounds heavier than I want to be!!
We had a long talk about diet and he said the medical profession has no idea how people loose weight. I told him that I was running 4 times a week and following a strict Atkins routine. He said he had no idea what to recommend. The latest surveys of the literature reveal that there is no clear understanding of what works. His advice, don't ask a doctor.

So, I'm thrilled that I don't have some major problem with my metabolism and I'm good to go.

But I'm also stripped of all excuses what to do???

Do I go back on induction and convince myself it will be different this time? Do I switch to a low calorie strategy? Do I get more extreme with exercise? Weightwatchers? Do I just give up and love my healthy fat self?
My DH says that it is all mental: that I lose weight when I'm in love or when I can't wait to go to work. He loves me whatever my girth

Today, I'm just going to celebrate the moment. I finished a massively challenging project and my doctor gave me a clean bill of health. Joy, and peace.

Tomorrow, I'll need to make some choices about my next steps.
    Aloha

Stick with this. My main reason is not because it works (even though it does) but it is the only diet that wont let you eat a heap of sweets and crap EVER. No see, no eat.

Other diets let you have things in small amounts.

Hula mom I highly suspect that STRESS has played a major roll in all of this. Now that your big project is complete I bet you will start to see some changes. I speak of this as in the past 2 weeks I've been losing. As pointed out to me STRESS was a major factor in my stall.

Have you been off plan? If so then I would do a clean 2 week Induction & then move right on to OWL.

      Good luck!!

Hula Mom this is that kind of cross road many people find themselves in, me included. I find I thrive and feel my best on this way of eating. I feel great when in ketosis.

I agree with Glenda. I say stick to the woe and now that the stress is alleviated your body may react differently. Give it some more time.

Congrats on the clean bill of health! That had to be very relieving to hear. I understand your sense of wonder at what to do. I'm sure many of us have been there before. If you've been on plan but you're in a stall (although your glowing health report says something great is happening regardless of the weight loss) you could check out the chapter on stalling in the book. It could help point you in the direction you want to take.

              Best of luck!

Congrats on the clean bill of health! That's the MOST important thing!

Are you stalled only on the scale? Are you still losing inches? Regardless, stick with it. It'll work, maybe just slower. As long as you can accept that and stay motivated, go for it. All of the plans I've been on (and that's been plenty)....this one makes me FEEL the best. I lost weight on others but always felt hungry and denied.

Have a great day and enjoy the moment.

                  Re: Good News! And REALITY

I think every one has given you some great advice, come to think about it I also stalled when I was under allot of stress and when I felt great and was working hard and believed in myself I noticed I started to lose again. I do believe power of the mind is a powerful tool.

I agree with Jesse I think we all hit that cross road of what to do next at some point in time on our personal journey of weight lose and healthy living. I personally love how I feel too when I’m in Ketoses. I think this journey is also about the process of how we get there not just what the final goal is.

Do what you feel is best for you long term and what will help you reach your goals of weight lose and healthy living. Congrats on the clean bill of health, glad nothing was wrong. I wish you all the best and much success =)

                    Re: Good News! And REALITY

I am wondering if your body is reacting to something that maybe you previous ate with no problem but now can't. IE: sugar substitutes or cheese??

Do you use fitday?? Maybe keep really good track and enter everything in and make sure you are eating at or around your BMR and 5%carb/30%protein/65% fat. If your numbers fall into those calories and those percentages I would say you should be losing no problem. After doing that for 2 weeks I would say it is time to look deeper.
