  • Can I do this again?

Hello Atkineers. I know only you all can understand my struggles, because nobody in this world seems to. I've been a food addict all my life and yo-yo'd on all the diets, you know the drill. Two years ago I was a 70 lb loss success story and was able to maintain for almost a year. Needless two say, I feel off the wagon 20 lbs ago and I'm freeking out. I've attempted to come back several times at different levels: induction, rung 1, rung 2... and I give up after 2 weeks, because I'd either gain a pound or would see no results. This is traumatizing because the first time around it was smooth sailing MOST of the way. I wonder, does it get more difficult when you try to get back? Does my body know what I'm doing and resisting? Will this WOL EVER work for me again? I'm devastated in the thought that I may have to try something else because this is the WOL I can stick to best. I know my addiction, and this WOL kept me in check like nothing else could.

Is it possible that that I just can't do this again? or do I need to give it alot more time to kick in?

...it's only a matter of time before I'm FAT again.
    Lola

Lola, we are in the same boat and it does not get easier. It is slower 2nd time around. I have a different attitude this time. Instead of being focused on the results I am trying to stay focused on the journey. On doing things better each day and not letting small goof ups become big ones. I am trying not to get on the scale often as it is frustrating and disappointing when it doesn't move. So far I have been doing great in my attitude although my loss is slow. But I am losing! I think reshaping what my goals are is helping me this time around.

It's not about the results. Its about the process.

Also be careful of a tendency to be lax the second time around. Ask yourself if EVERYTHING you just ate was legal.....

Re: Can I do this again?

you CAN do this again. there are many of us 2nd time arounders here, and many of us have fell off the wagon, many times and are now deciding to get back on it again(for the umpteenth time). the weight loss does seem to happen in a slower pace, but it does happen and if you are determined and stick to it, it will come off.

a few things to remember as you begin again, follow a strict 2 week induction, drink lots of water, move onto OWL when you are ready. if you do an extended induction try not to linger too long there. try to stay off the scale until you finished your 2 week induction, as weight will flucuate daily and you'll see a larger number than if you weigh yourself on a daily basis. also, take your measurements as sometimes the scale may not move, but you will notice a loss in inches. lastly, don't forget to exercise!! Dr. A said that exercise is non negotiable. even if you just go for a leisurely walk everyday that's atleast something.

i wish you much success, and keep us posted as you continue on with your journey.

Re: Can I do this again?

Did you do a clean Induction? Had you been following the maintenance plan from the DANDR or had you gone back to eating as you did in the past. Did you find your CCL & stick to that number of carbs?

There are many 2nd, 3rd timers...multiple timers. The key is to not give up. Maybe you can post a few menus for people to take a look at & help you try to figure out what may be the issue.

This is my second time, and it seems just as easy to me as it did the first time. You MUST do a clean two week Induction, then move up to OWL. Start today, you know how fast two weeks fly by. You are worth it, and those poison carbs are so not worth it. Drink lots of water, and take one day at a time. We believe in you!!
Try to get 80-100 ounces a day!

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.

Re: Can I do this again?

I'm having the same trouble you are. I lost 11 lbs during the 2 weeks of induction but haven't lost anything since then and this is day 47 for me. But I'm not discouraged because I know it will happen. I've stopped eating cheese to see if that helps and that is hard because cheese is a favorite of mine. I've also joined an exercise challenge and that has kept me motivated to not give up. Hang in there because we can do this. You have lots of support here.

Well, at least you stopped yourself and realized something needed to be done. Good luck and stay focused. God Bless, Joe

Re: Can I do this again?

Hi, Lola -- I've been experiencing the same thing you described for the past 9 months or so. Lost 90 pounds, but fell off the wagon and have had a REALLY hard time getting back on. Now, I've regained 30 pounds. I could KICK myself. I'm so discouraged and disappointed, yet I know this IS the right choice for me. I have to find my way back.

I think our problem as re-treads is negotiation... we keep trying to do it our way. We're pros at this, right? We allow little things that maybe we didn't the first time. Or maybe we did, but our bodies are more sensitive now. It's like the carb monsters are standing by, just waiting for us to give them an inch...

Anyway, I just want you to know that I could have written your post myself. It seems 10x harder this go-round...

I hope you decided to recommit. I have. AGAIN. TODAY. Best of luck to you!

Re: Can I do this again?

THANK YOU ALL SO SO MUCH. I read all the responses, and each of you contributed equally. It's true about being a know it all and trying to do it my way. If I remember correctly (it was over a month ago I tried) I think I was trying to incorporate maintenance foods into induction. GRRR.

OK - guys I'm back on! Today I had 2 eggs and a slice of cheese for BF, lunch was like 6 chicken wings, and dinner will be salmon. I will stay off the scale for 2 weeks - I will drink my water! and I'll attempt to squeeze in a brisk walk!

                    Thank you all.
                    Lola

We're in the same boat. Trying to get this stopped before it gets out of control again. It's scary how easy it can get out of control.
