One of my friend actually ate the banana pecan stuffed pancakes drenched in maple syrup. I looked it up on the website and it had 198 grams of carbs. I was like pavlov's dog looking at that plate of food.

Anyway, I drank almost a gallon of water this morning so I really wasn't hungry and I thought that a side of green beans and two sausage patties would be a good choice.

The sausage patties were a good choice but the green beans were not. When I got home, I looked them up and they have six grams of net carbs. That's way more than I would've wanted to blow on a very small serving of green beans. I'd say it's the ham that's used for seasoning.

That kind of makes me wonder because usually when we eat out, I'll get green beans. I may be getting more carbs than I thought!!

Their sausage is really good. I like Cracker Barrel because they have their carb counts right there on the menu. CB has great sausage, too.

You do have to watch, though. I saw an expose where some of these restaurants are off by as 30%. If a food seems suspiciously good, I would be skeptical of the menus.

I'm just going to have to go real basic when I eat out. We're going to a steakhouse this weekend with the inlaws. I was looking forward to that until I read all the stuff they put on the steaks.

I'm going to have to figure out an "eating out" dish and just stick with it when we go out.

I don't like to eat out, but I have 9 sisters and brothers, and sometimes the only way to get together is a bunch of us go out to eat together. They always let me pick the restaurant, so I picked Applebee's. I thought I was safe getting the house sirloin, a side Caesar salad with no croutons and a big order of roasted asparagus. When my order came, the asparagus looked like it had nothing on it, so I asked for butter. It never came, so I ate it. I thought it tasted suspiciously good for a bare veggie. I wasn't really hungry, so I piddled with my food, and suddenly felt so full I was almost sick.

We left at about 8:00 p.m. with me so stuffed I felt miserable. I got home and about 30 minutes later, I was craving everything in the house. I ate a little bit of everything until I forced myself to stop at 10:30.

I called the next day and talked to the chef. There was sugar in everything, including the steak. The salad dressing, the asparagus, the STEAK! Who puts sugar in STEAK!

I don't trust any of them. If I don't cook it, I don't eat it.

So what do I do, Sunny????? That's exactly the type of thing I'm looking to avoid. Yesterday, after I ate the green beans at Bob Evans, I could feel my heartbeat jack up. I knew something was up.

That's why I came home and looked it up. Six grams of carbs in LESS than a half cup of green beans. Maybe a quarter cup. I'm sure the ham chunks were sugar cured.

I don't know what to tell you to do. All restaurants do it. The only place I can be assured of getting a kinda decent no sugar meal is at Red Lobster. I get the grilled fish (usually rainbow trout, a Caesar salad with no croƻtons and double side veggies in place of the potato. They don't put a thing on the veggies. There's a lot of baby carrots, which I pick out, but you get plenty of broccoli and summer squash to fill you up.

One of my brothers was in product development for about 20 years with one of the top food producers world-wide. He let me read the results of a meeting with the USDA and the government about the use of sugar. So the USA doesn't have to outright support third world countries that produce sugar, food producers and restaurants are given tax breaks and incentives to put sugar into everything. That way, we the public, are supporting them by buying their sugar. The government said that if we stopped using so much sugar, they would go under if we stopped importing so much and we would just have to support them.

Never mind that we are getting fatter and fatter and we are dying from diabetes. That just keeps the pharmaceutical companies in business.
