  • Back for my second time...

Four years ago I had heard of a few success stories by following DANDR..and thought i'd give it a try. Once I started reading, I became really excited because I had finally found a diet that seemed to suit my needs perfectly...I had tried everything..Weight Watchers, Weight Loss clinics, gimicky diet plans, and always ended up feeling discouraged after losing very little weight while feeling like I was always starving.
In my first two weeks, I had lost eighteen pounds...I couldn't believe how easy it was. Within eight months, I had lost seventy one pounds, and felt sexier than ever (despite some loose skin). I was more confident, and began to enjoy taking care of myself (including buying a closet full of clothes..which used to feel like a nightmare to me).
I became pregnant with my third child and gave birth a year ago. I used my pregnancy as an excuse to "eat for two" which included all of the foods that contributed to my original weight gain..after giving birth I was exactly the same weight as I had been at my heaviest. I felt discouraged, and continued to eat..pretending like it didn't really matter to me anyway. Nine days ago, I decided to re-commit to the Atkins lifestyle. I recruited two girls from my office as support, and visit this forum regularly for motivation, ideas, and answers to common questions. I have little support from my husband, or family, but find it here in the quiet community of people who struggle, but are committed to becoming the person they know they can be...
Although until now I've been silent, I wanted to thank all of you for your positive comments, your honesty, and mostly for your ongoing encouragement.
BTW, I'm down twelve pounds and feel sexier already !!

Hey, you are doing good! I had also lost well 4 years ago, became basically an 'Atkins Guru' and went from 240 to 164. I bought a house, and while moving in took a fall. I couldn't exercise for a few days, got distracted with being hurt and concentrating on getting my house in order, and did not keep up my plan. I didn't start back exercising and before long was visiting this most excellent donut shop around the corner. Donut holes are evil, if you don't know. That's my story. So now I am back again.

Twelve pounds in nine days is a wonder, proud of you and for you!

It sounds like you are doing great so far! Your situation sounds so much like me. I was so successful with atkins in 2004 and nothing else had worked for me and I tried it ALL.....Then after 45 pounds off of my body and I was feeling great.....something changed in my life and caused major stress.... and I found excuses to eat all of the carbs I had eliminated for a long while. All the weight came back. This is my first day back on Atkins and this time I am going to make it. I have to. I just experienced MAJOR health problems because of my weight. I cant keep going the way I am. This has to be my way of eating for life. I hope I can lose a nice little chunk on my induction like you did! Its always such a rush!

It's really nice to find that you both are just starting over again..it helps that someone can relate to my ongoing inner struggle. It is such a disappointment to have once achieved what seemed to be an unattainable goal, then have to work so hard mentally to stick to the plan everyday. Please use me as a buddy, someone to keep you on track..my coworker has already quit due to massive headaches, and my boss brought in brownies..
I'm eating my salad and drinking water, but sometimes it's hard to stay focused. Good luck to the both of you, I look forward to seeing your results
