  • ok- I'm ready... but could someone look over my menu?

Ok, I've decided I'm starting my new life tomorrow...not waiting until school starts! I figure, I might as well get on with it, by then, who knows? Maybe I'll be down a few pounds! (I'm keeping my fingers crossed!) Anyways, I went out and bought all the foods I'm going to need and I sat down and planned out my menu for tomorrow and it doesn't seem like I have enough carbs. If anyone could look it over and offer suggestions/comment, I'd be so grateful!

    Breakfast:
    Atkins shake (I can't have eggs-allergy)
    3 slices of bacon

    Snack:
    Cheese Stick

    Lunch:
    Tuna with Mayo
    4 stalks of celery

    Snack:
    Pepperoni Chips

    Dinner:
    Chicken breast
1/2 c. steamed broccoli w/2 slices american cheese
    2 c. lettuce and cukes
    1/2 c. tomatoes
    2 tbsp. ranch dressing

According to my calculations, I've got 15 net carbs. Is this too few? Also, I notice that most of my carbs are at dinner. Should I be spreading them out more? Thanks for any advice!

I'm fresh into my second-time around too (almost finished with week 2). But in my previous successful Atkins and this time too, I sort of launched into it not doing meal planning. I know, most would say that's not smart, but I've always been the type that detailed meal planning trips me up after a short while, too tedious for me to continue long-term, lol.

In other words, I bought a bunch of various raw meats to stock up the freezer, eggs (too bad you can't eat eggs) and a bunch of lettuce, butter, creme, and pork rinds, Atkins shakes and bars, and jumped into it. (I didn't get cheese because somewhere in the book it said cheese can make weight loss slower or something.) For the first two weeks of induction, I just stuck with meats/eggs and went for 3 cups lettuce with mayo as my carbs. For me, I have to keep it simple.

Having said all that, on your plan above, I see a little over on the veggies. In induction, it says 2-3 cups of salad veggies, OR 2 cups of salad veggies and 1 cup of the "other veggies." I don't know how many cups 4 stalks of celery makes, but you'd have to include that in your 2 cups of salad veggies. But see, you have 2 cups of lettuce & cukes in your dinner meal.

And yes, I spread out my carbs throughout the day, because a big key is keeping that good old blood sugar low and slow. A bunch of carbs eaten all at once, even low-glycemic index ones, can trigger an insulin spurt, something you don't want to happen.

Congrats on taking the plunge again and just going ahead and doing it. If you're like me when I started over, by this time next week, when your head has cleared and you're feeling that great Atkins zen, you'll be happy you did. Way to go!!!!

I love the planning going on here! Amazing thing. You girls are truly fired up, absolutely organized and you WILL SEE RESULTS !!!!

Ok, I am going to prepare you for something that will be coming from the very good intentions of others. Most people on this site have not done well with the Atkins product line. It often triggers cravings and some feel very strongly that these products are not even legit because the company was taken over and most of the products where redesigned to appeal more to the consumer. To a newbie this could be very discouraging and confusing. I wanted to head that off before others start to make comments. I would suggest you each be very careful with what you consume from the Atkins product line and watch very closely for any triggers. I know I have used products and they have caused cravings for more and I had to step back.
Coffee is another one that causes alot of opinions. I drink it every day and still managed to loose alot of weight, so for my body I did not have to give it up.
Just be careful, and mostly don't loose the momentum that is really beginning to take off in your life!
