  • Hello from a 2nd Timer in Texas

My husband and I just started Atkins again for the second time. First time was about 5 years ago, and we both lost about 30-35 lbs. We became board with the diet and fell off the wagon, so to speak, and went back to our old habits of eating too much of all the foods we love. SOUND FAMILIAR??? We get so disgusted with ourselves!

Since that first time on Atkins, we've tried Nutrisystem, Weight Watchers, and now back to Atkins. We love being able to eat the fat and protein, so maybe we'll do better this time. It seems as though we can only eat well while we on a diet program, so I guess this is a lifelong thing.

Thanks for the warm welcome and I look forward to our communications! It's been 6 days, I've only lost 1 lb. I've truly been good, so any ideas for me?

Sure, post your menu. List everything including sweetners, coffee etc
Have you tried www.fitday.com This is a free site that you can enter in what you ate for the day and it will tell you how many hidden carbs you have had. It was a life saver for me.

Welcome back! I know exactly what you mean, both my husband and I were on Atkins, did great, then slowly fell off. We both love to eat and it's hard when neither of us is motivated to stay on plan. I'm doing my darndest to stay on track, and my husband is now wanting to join me! Good luck to you this time around!

                      Hi and welcome!

I'm from Texas too about an hour and a half south of Dallas!

Fitday helped me alot a couple of years ago. I, too, went back to my old ways of eating and have found myself re-committing to this WOE. However, this time around my commitment will be for LIFE! It truly is the BEST way to eat.

                      ~Good night~

Re: Hello from a 2nd Timer in Texas

Hi all! I am a 2nd timer. I didn't fall completely off the wagon but I certainly had one leg dangling! I was very concientous of eating things that were off plan and still ate things on plan with a slight variation! If that makes any sense.

As soon as I gained three pounds I knew that I was going to continue to watch the scale go up if I didn't do something. I have now figured out that pasta, potatoes and sugar are things I need to leave out of my diet forever. They are certainly not comfort foods when I know that the hard work of the 30 lbs. I had already lost were going to go down the tubes just by continuiing to eat them!

I woke up last Sunday and realized that I didn't start this diet to fail and that I was going to get myself to my goal weight and be happy with looking in the mirror again no matter what it took.

I restarted induction last Monday and I am happy to report that I have been losing weight quicker than the last time I was on Induction. I am using FitDay to calculate everything and it really helps to keep things in perspective. Today when I put my new weight in I realized that my BMI had now gone from OBESE to OVERWEIGHT. I got so excited. To realize that you are obese when you used to be so petite really hurt and now I know that I'm on the right path to correcting the mistakes of the past 21 years.

When you are tempted to eat things that you shouldn't...like I usually am around 10:00 pm I just tell myself...."I'll get it in a minute"..."I'll get it in a minute" and soon that minute turns into an hour and I'm asleep. I also take a look at the things that I can now wear as a size 10 that I couldn't wear when I was a size 16. It certainly helps!

If you get discouraged because you are stalled in your weight loss it helps to shake things up a bit. Change your foods and eat more variety. Change your workout and do something different. Sometimes I think our bodies just get used to us putting the same things in it and it knows what's coming. Don't get discouraged and don't allow yourself to fail. Just keep telling yourself how great you look and what you are going to look like when you get to the end result!

I know I will be better this time around and I know that I will stay on plan because it will make a better me and I will be able to say that I did it without surgery or special pills or even being under a doctor's diet.

Re: Hello from a 2nd Timer in Texas

Gosh, I can definitely relate to most everyone's situation. I'm really, really struggling the 2nd time around and I can't, for the life of me, figure out why. I've been on Induction 3 weeks and have only lost 2.5 lbs. The first time I did Atkins, I had lost 15 lbs. by now, so I'm really stumped. I'm following the plan, I'm using FitDay.com to track my carbs (and I'm not even doing the net carb thing ... I'm counting whole carbs).

The only thing I can figure out is that maybe some of my medications are interfering ... I'm on HRT, blood pressure meds, cholesterol meds, etc. My weight is not causing these medical issues because they didn't go away when I lost my weight 5 years ago. My doctor says I can thank my parents and their genetic make-up. Anyhoo, I'm really frustrated.

I will admit that I am a sedentary person, and I don't exercise, so I know that has at least a little to do with it. But REALLY, 3 lbs in 3 weeks ... I must be doing something wrong.
