  • Argh, so frustrated!

I had a great first week and a half of Induction, lost about 8-9 pounds. Then all of a sudden I stopped losing, and even gained a pound or two! Anyone care to help me figure out what went wrong? Things I'm guilty of:

    - I've been eating some processed meats (bacon, breakfast sausage, hot links - I always read the labels and try to find the lowest carb options but they do tend to have a few carbs).
    - diet soda (maybe one a day if that).
    - American cheese and a little bit of ketchup with my burger patties.
    - probably don't drink as much water as most on here.

I know none of these are great to do while in Induction, but do you think they could lead to not only stopping my weight loss but gaining weight as well? The last time I did Atkins (probably 4 years ago) I could get away with these little rule benders and still did great at losing weight. Maybe because I'm older now I need to be more strict? It's really hard to keep at it and see no progress! This is what I've eaten so far today if that helps. Usually I have eggs and some kind of breakfast meat in the mornings but wasn't in the mood for eggs today. Maybe I'm eating too much cheese?

Breakfast: hamburger patty with cheese, salad with ranch
    snack: cheese stick
lunch: hamburger patty with cheese, salad with ranch
snack: "pizza dip" of pepperoni and melted mozzarella with pork rinds
dinner: chicken breast, salad with ranch
    snack: cheese stick

    Re: Argh, so frustrated!

    Hello,
I'm looking at your menu and see cheese at each meal except dinner. On Induction and Extented Induction we are allowed 3-4 ounces of cheese a day. If you're exceeding that, then that could also be the culprit. I have found that dairy has a tendancy to stall me aswell.
Are you eating veggies from the other veggie list? Page 126 DANDR. We're allowed 2 cups of salad veggies Page 125 DANDR and one cup of other veggies. Or 3 cups of salad veggies. I see you're eating salad. Is it just lettuce? One cup at each meal?
Ouch, ketchup! That could definately knock you out of ketosis depending on how much added sugar is in the ingrediants, no matter how "little bit" it is, unfortunately. If it were me, i'd kick the ketchup to the curb for Induction. I'd add it back in (Low Carb Ketchup, no added sugar) when you got to Rung 1 Veggies.
Also, when you're reading labels for lowest carbs on your processed meat, are you looking in the ingrediants for added sugar? That could also knock you out of ketosis. The added sugar that is.
Another thing I want to say is
CONGRATULATIONS on the pounds gone forever! That is a great loss for Induction! Good Job!
We all have a natural rythm to weightloss. It is perfectly normal for our weight to fluctuate like that. Lose 8 pounds, gain one or two, then start losing again. Everyones rythm is different but perfectly normal.
Just keep doing what you're doing. Get your water in the best you can. So important to drink plenty of water. Watch your cheese intake and kick that ketchup to the curb. Maybe try a variety of veggie rather than just salad. The fiber and nutrients will do you good. Watch for sugars in the ingrediants on EVERYTHING!! And just keep moving forward!
Wishing you the best of health and lite.

      Re: Argh, so frustrated!

The older you get and the more times you do induction, the less you can bend the rules. You can get low carb ketchup--Heinz makes a good one. I make my own.

You are eating a LOT of cheese. You are allowed 3 to 4 ounces of hard cheese. American cheese is not hard cheese, but each slice is one ounce. Cheese sticks are usually one ounce. Almost every meal and snack contains cheese.

Now, with that out of the way, you cannot expect your weight to continually go down. There are many reasons for weight to fluctuate over a week or even a few days. Your body is still trying to maintain the status quo. Sometimes, when the scale stays still or goes up, you are losing inches. It is better to do a clean induction and not get on the scales until the end of induction.

People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

        Re: Argh, so frustrated!

I have found in my several repeats, that when I try to go back on induction I often don't follow the rules. My memory of what I am allowed to have is of 'extended induction', which is fine once I've achieved ketosis. But it is not ketosis inducing. You have to follow the rules EXACTLY until you reach ketosis, then the little slips you used to allow yourself won't hang you up as much.

Truthfully, the best way is to follow the rules. The reason I keep restarting is that I'm not following the rules all the way through.

Tomorrow I plan on starting a 'by the book' induction and I am not stepping off the 2002 DANDR rules for at least a year, maybe forever....

I think that's the only way off the rollercoaster

        hope this helps you!

          Re: Argh, so frustrated!

Hi, I am new to this forum but i am really frustrated and starting to get depressed. i lost 115 lbs on Atkins 1 1/2 yrs ago, I had a surgery to remove excess skin and my life has never been the same. I went into surgery weighing 164 and came out 17 lbs heavier! Doctor sasid it was all the fluid the put in during the surgery and it could take up to a year to get rid of it, well here we are 1 1/2 yrs later and I am up 38 lbs.. I tired the "normal" way of eating because everyone I knew told me I looked to thin, and I couldn't keep eating Atkins forever, Then My hubby came home from Iraq and I frank a little bit, ate a little pizza but not crazy, I tried to stay under 1800 cal a day, not including alcohol, then would try Atkins for 2 weeks and get little results, then yoyo back an forth, So know I said to heck with what everyone else told me. I knew Atkins worked for me, so I started induction on Tuesday last week, and I h ave gained 3 lbs! I hit Ketosis for a brief second yesterday and then went out of it, and I had Maybe 10 carbs all day and that was from some cheddar cheese and salad, I drink alot of water already, but when I was on Atkins before, I dropped weight like crazy the first 2 weeks, I certiannly didn't gain! I am getting depressed! Help, Tell me what I am doing wrong, Has anyone else went back on induction and gained? What did you do? I am a 43 yr old female and I am 5'5". I put my info into fitday yesterday and I ate 1300 Calories and 10 carbs. Thanks and I will try to be patient and wait for a response, but it is not my strong suit.
