After reading Blueberrylady's thread, I was curious what everyone's daily vitamin regimen is? I need to start this and was thinking of taking a generic multi + calcium. Any advice is much appreciated!

    Re: Vitamins

You can't go wrong with a good multi. I'm way older than you are, and because I have certain health concerns and no insurance, I take a variety of supplements daily. So unless you have high cholesterol, allergies, arthritis and a family history of osteoporosis, you could skip probably 80 percent of what I take!

I think all women would benefit from supplemental calcium/magnesium (for bone health) plus either Vitamin D or fish oil to help assimilate it. My doctor is the one who told me to take fish oil (it raises HDL cholesterol levels ... the good stuff).

But all the vitamins in the world won't replace a lousy diet, of course. So make sure to eat your greens and other veggies! But you already knew that.

hey thanks, Norah! congrats on the weight loss so far

ah yes, fish oil. Since I don't believe I ever consumed fish.... that probably be a good thing to get!

      Any others?

          Re: Vitamins

          Hi Mojo,
I currently supplement daily with a B-complex, Flaxseed Oil, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Chromium, Potassium, and a Calcium with vitamin D. I especailly added the calcium, flaxseed and potassium as I was having heart arryhtmias. However, since adding the supplements and adjusting them according to what my body was calling for I've felt fine and had no episodes of the heart arrhytmia. Using fitday really helped me to see that I was severly lacking in the potassium where my food intake was concerned. I strongly recommend doing some research on vitamin deficiencies and how supplementing can really protect your health in the long-term. If you want to start something I would highly encourage the Vitamin C...at least 1000 mg per day; more i you begin to feel under the weather. Vitamin C is amazing!!! I sure hope this helps.

            Re: Vitamins

We take a generic centrum silver, a B-complex, and Flaxseed Oil supplements.

It's important to try to get a multivitamin that doesn't contain iron as us on Atkins normally consume enough iron in our diet. (Generic centrum silver doesn't contain iron FYI)

              Re: Vitamins

              thanks, all!

This really helps.... I think I should get the Centrum as sometimes I get nauseous when I take a vit with iron. Plus the vitamin c, calcium, and fishoil

maybe I'll start there and then do some more research, using fitday seems like a good idea but I have had trouble with it in the past because of the way they use the measurements is wierd to me

colleen- what is acidopholus all about?

              thanks

                thanks

Acidophilus is a probiotic (good bacteria) to help regulate your digestive tract. I had tried fiber, upping my spinach intake, lots of different things to get things moving - nothing worked, until I tried the acidophilus. I take 1 capsule a day and feel WAY better
