I have always known mayo to be Atkins/induction friendly.. label says 0 carbs 0 sugars... today while waiting for the microwave to do it's magic.. I decided to read the ingredients list..... is said SUGAR!!!!!!!! I am upset thinking I am not doing induction properly by using mayo. I used Helman's Real Mayo last time and this time.... is there possibly to little to do anything.. or could it be naturally occurring sugar???

Re: Mayo Confusion???
Most mayo brands do contain sugar of some sorts although it is very low in proportion to the other ingredients. From my understanding, Dukes mayo is the only brand in the US that is sugar free. Now I never hear about Dukes mayo until I moved down south to Georgia, so I don't think it's available everywhere.
According to fitday, one tablespoon has 0.54g of carbs. I don't know what brand that is or if it is an average of most brands. Your mayo does have sugar but is less than 0.5g of carbs per serving (lets say for example it has 0.4449999 grams of carbs per serving of 1 tablespoon. If you were to eat 3 tablespoons you would be eating ~1.33 grams of carbs and not even know it!)
It's great that you're reading food labels as most food manufacturers like to sneak in extra sugar when people are not looking. Shame on them!
IMO, all food lables should at least go to 0.01 decimals.

Re: Mayo Confusion???
Thank you for the info guys!!!!! I was really disheartened!!!! I read every label... I even stopped buying bacon because I couldn't find any that didn't have some sort of sugar listed in the ingredients. What a bummer... nothing better than cooking all beef burgers.. putting sauteed mushrooms on top then melting cheddar cheese on top then dipping it in mayo!!! I was also eating tuna with mayo and making deviled eggs!!!!
I guess I will have to find something else!!!!!

Re: Mayo Confusion???
I did the same thing my first time on induction, with the Helmans, I was shocked to see sugar in it. I buy Trader Joes mayo - no sugar in that one
We don't have Dukes anywhere around here.

Re: Mayo Confusion???
The one complaint I have about Georgia is that it's too big! I grew up in CT where there is only 8 counties. Now I'm in a state that's got 159! Tink and I live northeast of ATL, how bout you DLS?Originally posted by DLS View PostI've been using the Kraft with olive oil. I guess I will pick up some Duke's. We are in GA too!

Re: Mayo Confusion???
Hey GBI. I lived in CT all my life until June of this year I moved to North Carolina. This is one huge state also.
I found the mayo recipe if anyone is interested
From Lindas low carb menus and recipes:
DOTTIE'S MASON JAR MAYO
1 egg
1/4-1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
2-3 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 cup oil
1/4 teaspoon pepper, optional
1 clove garlic, minced, optional
Break the egg into a pint wide-mouth mason jar. Add the salt, mustard and lemon juice. Pour the oil on top but do not stir. Immerse a stick blender to the bottom of the jar. Hold on the bottom and blend 5-6 seconds until the bottom starts to look creamy and whitish. Move the blender up and down slowly until the mayonnaise has emulsified.
Makes about 3/4 cup
Do not freeze
Per Tablespoon: 88 Calories; 10g Fat; 1g Protein; trace Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; .5g Net Carbs
Per 1/4 Cup: 351 Calories; 38g Fat; 2g Protein; 2g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 2g Net Carbs
Per 3/4 Cup: 1054 Calories; 114g Fat; 7g Protein; 5g Carbohydrate; trace Dietary Fiber; 5g Net Carbs
This was soooo easy to make! Mayonnaise in a matter of seconds. I thought it was a little salty, so I'll only use 1/4 teaspoon salt next time as in Dottie's Original Mayo recipe. It came out very thin, so I might use only 2 t. lemon juice (also as in Dottie's Original Mayo recipe). I tasted some on a salad and the lemon flavor is a bit too strong for my taste. Since store bought mayo uses vinegar and lemon juice, I might try half and half. Store bought also has a stronger egg flavor, so I might try 2 egg yolks next time. Although the flavor is different than store bought, I think it will be very nice with a bit of tweaking.

Re: Mayo Confusion???
Okay, this could explain alot. I looked at Helmanns and thought it was the best one... Again I didnt read the ingrediants though. I have been using it for a lot of stuff tuna salad, eggs, chicken salad... you name it. Well there is; now I know what is stalling me.How does one become a butterfly?
