  • pass the bread

Last night my DH took out of the freezer the most delicious looking loaf of whole grain bread from some organic bakery in Seattle, and sliced up some to go with the Atkins friendly dinner I had cooked. He discreetly kept the slices out of my line of sight, but just seeing that big loaf on the counter, all thawed out, was super tempting. When I cleared up dishes he had left a few crusts on his plate and as I reached to scrape them into the bin my hand almost went to my mouth!

Yes, good whole bread has been a temptation, so much so, I usually don't purchase any, we usually just have the nuts and seeds sandwich variety on the counter, which I can pass up.

How I got past it last night was to say to myself: you, along with more than 50% of the population, are allergic to wheat. The signs of the allergy, for you, are the water retention all over your body and especially around your eyes, and the big bloated upper belly that you always have when you allow bread and pasta into your diet. Don't eat something you are allergic to!

That big loaf is still on the counter this morning...maybe I better put it in a brown bag and put it up in the cupboard...

Thanks Charene. Last night it seemed so tempting, but tonight I didn't have a care in the world for bread. Pretty cool.

I have this mental image of Atkineers all over the world making late night trips to dark back allys to sniff hits from bags of different types of breads. Then, once we're busted our claim is that we didn't inhale.

...pass the sourdough and 8 grain this way.

Lol! I'm not a bakery bag sniffer ... the only thing that triggers my food lust lately is the smell of peanut butter. And not that healthy, oil-on-top jazz, either - give me SKIPPY or give me death!

Congrats on your self-control, Red. We are all tempted by different things and it's always nice to hear of someone else's success with it. Every little victory over the carbs strengthens us all! Good work!

Norah, I don't even want to 'think' about peanut butter.LOL

Hilarious! Problem is, I always inhale! snerk snerk

Pnut butter, mmmm....allow me to indulge just an imaginary whiff....no carbs in that!

DH has gone back to Seattle to work and I asked him to please not bring home anymore of that wonderful bread, we still have another huge loaf in the freezer. He's such a supportive hubby, he always exclaims that whatever I've cooked is "really good, really good"...I haven't figured out if he really means it or if it's just a strategy to keep me in the kitchen and not him!
