  • Hello

    Hi Everyone,
New to the site (last week) and I started back on Atkins on monday (having been there and done it twice before with great results).
I weighed myself this morning and I have lost 3lb since monday - so hoping it will still ring true when I jump on the scales in 2 days!

I forgot how tiring the first couple of days are and glad I was on 3 days off when I decided to start as I spent those 3 days either sleeping or nursing a headache!!!!! (my husband was the same and he started on monday too) I feel a little better today and getting into the stride of things.

The only thing I have a problem with is what I have for breakfast at 5:30am when I have to get up for work. I am a nurse and work three 12 hour shifts. I really cant face eating something big that time of the morning as I am barely awake lol

The other thing is I recently was introduced to Iced Coffee (being from the UK originally not had Iced coffee before lol) and now of course I love it. One of my co-workers brought me a Mcdonald's one (low sugar) and it was great - so going to try and make my own!

I am really hoping that I get the same results as I did the last 2 times I did Atkins - I lost about 30lb on both occassions and only really started to put weight on when I gave up smoking 4 years ago, then moved countries, moved house and moved jobs within weeks...so bit stressed to say the least.....

Thanks for all the support so far - got so much out of this forum already!

    Sue

    Re: Hello

Welcome Sue and good luck. Stress can do it to all of us every time. I think it is the number one cause of most health problems - or at least a major contributor.

I feel your pain about the breakfast. I get up at that time as well and have had a little trouble with the whole breakfast issue. I am not a breakfast eater, but I know I have to. I made some deviled eggs and choke down at least a half egg. I actually hate doing it, but feel better for having done it. I know that is really not enough food for breakfast, but it is either that or nothing. I am doing ok with the weight loss, so I guess eating so little for breakfast is working.

Actually, I am glad it is working at all. I was on some meds for about 4 years and steadily put on about 45 pounds at about 10 or so a year. When I figured out that the meds were the major contributor, I quit taking them (they were supposed to be short-term, so it was ok). Well, I would start induction and nothing would happen - even if I did it for a month. I was pretty discouraged, but would wait a few months and try again. Well, almost 2 years later it is finally working - so I am pretty thrilled that whatever the meds did to my body - it is finally over and my body will now let go of the pounds.

Luckily, I am now getting that great feeling from the sort of "detox" effects. I actually have more energy than I have had for years. Sorry you are going through the feeling bad stage - hope it goes away quick and that you get to the feel good with lots of energy stage.

I know exactly what you mean about coffee. I don't drink the iced variety, but I could drink 10 cups a day of regular coffee with cream if I allowed myself to. I am slowly cutting back from 3 cups to one and am currently at two cups - will be cutting one of those soon if I start to stall.

    Good luck,
    Tracy

        Hi Tracy,

Glad the Atkins is finally working for you....glad it isnt just me that is struggling at breakfast time - maybe once I am out of induction i can introduce other stuff into my diet slowly and have a bit more variety. My husband made this morning a stir fry which was basically - some thin strips of steak, pepper, onions , tomato, and he mixed in some salsa and added a few spices etc and served - it was very nice and different too! I didnt have a lot but it kept me going for a few hours...dont think i could eat that at 5:30am but I will just plod on with the eggs for now (like you say choke them down lol)

Good luck with your continued weightloss - be interested to hear how you get on

          Re: Hello

I have the same problem as you regarding eating early in the morning. I get up at 5am but didn't used to eat until 10. But since I started Atkins, I eat at 7 now. It's still hard to do at times and sometimes I forget but most days I eat earlier.

I try to take something with me to eat later. If you have access to a fridge at work, maybe you could take some hard boiled or deviled eggs, celery with cream cheese, egg or tuna salad or even some leftover meat or cheese. The idea is to get something to eat early enough that you don't get so hungry that you grab anything you can get your hands on later. Hope this helps.

            Re: Hello

Who says you have to eat incredibly early? How bout making some ham and cream cheese roll ups, and eating one in the car?
I know once you hit the hospital things are so busy in the mornings....
Deviled eggs are easy, and roll ups are easy. I also make "breakfast cupcakes"....my teenager loves grabbing one and eating on the run.
            1 doz eggs scrambled up.
            Add some browned sausage,
            chopped onion
            chopped tomatoe
            chopped green pepper
            half a cup of cream
            cup of shredded cheese
mix all together and pour into muffin tins or cupcake cups...bake at 350 for 25mins
peel and go! I keep em all in a zip lock and my dd can grab at will....I love em hot and fresh!
