  • Back and Excited

I've missed Atkins, missed the way it makes me feel and am ready to give it another try. Thankfully, since I left (I was at 275), I have lost some and not gained, but it's been slow and arduous. And, I didn't feel as alive while doing it. I need this for my health because I am diabetic and it's all that really works for me long-term. I'm proud of me for coming back, though, and not giving up completely on my health. I still have a LONG way to go, but you guys are a great support group!

        Welcome back Renee!

I know what you mean about this being the only weight loss program for you. I so forgot how good I feel when I limit my carbs. I didn't think much about it last time around, but this time, I really think my body just doesn't like anything but natural foods. I feel so bad when I eat processed food compared to not (and just didn't realize how bad until I started induction - you know, we just get used to how we feel physically and begin to not pay attention until something goes wrong). I am beginning to wonder if I am sensitive to something in processed foods or if I have a wheat allergy. Broccoli doesn't make me feel sluggish, but sandwiches certainly do - and I don't mean the dive your blood sugar takes a while after digesting the food - I mean I feel gross for the rest of the day. I just realized this and am so glad I jumped back in with both feet as I feel better than I have in years. Hope you start to feel better, too!

Good luck to you and have a great day.

        Tracy

            Re: Back and Excited

So glad to hear you've made your way back to a healthy eating plan.

I've been hovering in the pre-diabetic state for a few years myself. This is the way I'm going to not go there. You are so wise to give this another go.

tljack, it's a fact that most people are sensitive to wheat. I believe it's an underlying factor in the way Dr. Atkins designed this plan. There are a lot of reasons why most people are wheat-sensitive. In the clinic where I recently worked we routinely advised chronic pain patients to give up wheat. Those who bothered to eliminate bread, pasta, cookies, crackers, and just about anything from a box or package saw huge decline in their pain symptoms.

Myself, as soon as I stopped the wheat completely, when I did induction, the swelling around my knees that the orthopedist said was advanced arthritis, and if I were 10 years older he would do a double knee replacement, guess what? It all went away.

All that to say, Renee, you've made a strong and positive choice in the direction of health and I whole heartedly congratulate you. This ADBB is totally part of my success, I hope it will be for you too.
