Re: Atkins for adhd
sfriann, I don't have ADHD but I definitely experience an improvement in mental function when I stay off the sugar. There are numerous books out now but the one I read long ago that's still around is called The Sugar Blues by William Dufty. He talks about how sugar is really a brain poison, among other things.
Also when you start giving your body the right kind of nutrition, all kinds of "symptoms" seem to disappear. Things that you would never guess had anything to do with eating right. For example, I don't have anxiety since being on this way of eating, I don't need the medication I've taken for a long time. The anxiety was more than a mental feeling, it was accompanied by a physical sensation of "nerves" or whatever. What if all those years I was treated for anxiety was simply because I wasn't getting protein?
Protein is really important for brain and central nervous system function.
It's so right on for you to be thinking along these lines. For me, over the years, looking good was not enough to motivate me apparently, becasue I kept on looking fat via my eating habits. Now that I've become serious about improving my health, I can stay motivated to stay on plan. It looks like you are going down that path too. If you stay with it, I predict you will see even more positive health signs. Keep up the good work!redfoxglove

Re: Atkins for adhd
I have noticed an improvement with my adhd too. Normally i cant even watch a 30 min tv show or talk on the phone without my mind wandering to 2 or 3 different things at a time. I still have a hard time trying to only think about one thing at a time and stay on one task at a time(i bounce around too much) but it is definitely easier. My brain fog is gone 90% of the time. I dont think i could go back to eating carbs and feeling the way i did before. Its like i am finally clear instead of mucky.25/F
