  • Roll Call, Sunday 28 Sep

There is no room for regret. Now is the time for me to change. Without giving a prolific account of how "astray" Iv been, relative to the diet, I will share what I have discovered. Everyday for the past few months, I woke up in the morning telling myself that today will be different. It will mark the beginning of a return to the Atkins way of life. However, inevitably I would allow myself to break that pledge, and everytime I did so I felt as though a part of my being had been sacrificed. Soon it became easy to cheat to the point that I became indifferent. I did not care about what I was doing to my body and my life. All that concerned me was getting as much carbs into my stomach as possible. Doing so numbed the physical and emotional pain that I was experiencing, which was a result of consuming excess carbs in the first place.

The surge of motivation that was going to get me out of this abyss, was not sustained or never came. Neither did those around me care to invest their time and energy to lend a helping hand, perhaps predicting that it may potentially be futile- I am not sure.

But now I have given up on waiting for someones hand to pull me up, nor am I going to rely on my arbitrary motivation to choose whats right for me. Rather I am going to use my GOD given mind to create a plan. A plan for change and action. This is to help me get through those moments when my logic faultars and my desires wield great influence on my decision making. I know that to be successful, I will need to put in hard work. Tomorrow IS my first day of induction, and at 5am I will begin my exercise workout. This time I will not give into temptation, rather I will be mindful of my plan to change!

Hang in there Sarc. I can identify with everything you said. I treasure those months when I follow the WOE well because they are inevitably followed by weeks of halfhearted commitment. I never really know why I allow this to happen and I always come back, but I understand only too well what you are saying about committing each day and then blowing it by evening. I will be thinking of you tomorrow and wishing you strength. Jill

All of you have words of wisdom for me today. I'd been on a high roll since the first of this month and now this week my cycle went down to the bottom of the wave. It is an effort to keep a positive mental spin, but I am making the effort.

Chinadoll's words about treasuring the times that I am doing the plan well are very valuable to me right now. I so appreciate myself for how well I've done, and somehow the appreciating me helps me stay motivated. At this time in life I respond so much better to encouragement than to any other form of self talk. The ADBB is definitely a place of inspiration, support, and great info.

Today for the first time in 3 days I actually feel hungry. And I am hungry for protein. So here's me going in the kitchen to prepare another wonderful saute with veggies and eggs...

Sounds great, was trying to decide what is for lunch and I think it will be an omelette with plenty of pico de gallo and some 'green soup' I made yesterday. ( I make soup out of pretty much any vegetable I am concerned might go bad, and I had on hand two bags of shredded broccoli stem, so I made soup out of those with onions, garlic, and shredded spinach!)

I am still carrying on the affair with my tape measure, hadn't measure since last weekend and was knocked out when I measured today! I want a 28 inch waist, and I am only 10 inches from that goal!

Wow, only 10 inches to go. Good work.

Now I have a question for you. When you make your soup do you use chicken stock (like Swanson's in a box) or do you use vegetable stock? Wouldn't vegetable stock be a good way to up my carbs w/o adding more veggie bulk? And do you count up the carbs in the whole batch and divide by servings? I am trying to think how to work in soups to my menu cuz I know when the rain comes down 24/7 I'm going to want something hot for lunch, not another cold salad.

Sarc - I too can identify with you Just take things one day at a time, one meal at a time. Try to be prepared for your week, surrounded with foods that are induction friendly - plan out your menus of yummy foods. You can make it happen!

I hope everyone had a great weekend - it goes by way too fast!

Redfox - Soup is one of my fav's on rainy days! I'm getting bored of salad everyday - I eat my lunch at my desk at work so it's a bit limiting as to my choices. I would love to have some soup recipies for those not so great fall days ahead

Tomorrow is weigh/measure day - lets hope it's promising

Re: Roll Call, Sunday 28 Sep

I do use canned chicken stock. Yes, figuring the carbs is tough. I mainly just make sure everything in it is 'legal and don't overdo. I cook the veggies in stock with onion and garlic, let them cool a bit, puree them in the blender, put back in the pan and add cream. To this batch I added the shredded spinach after I puree'd it, heat it through. Add a sprinkle of shredded cheese and pepper.. maybe sour cream.

I figure I am allowed two cups of raw other vegetables (past OWL), so a cup or so of this can't be over my limit. I don't know how many servings I have when I end up with a potful, another reason I can't give you the carb count!

When I am tired of cold salads, I eat 'taco salad.' I cooked up 3 packages of ground meat with seasonings and divided it up to freeze. I heat up a cupful and throw it on my cold greens with cherry tomatoes, throw on cheddar cheese, and it is a great change of pace.
