  • Here I go, round 2!

I was on Atkins for about 9 months (around 2004), I dropped quite a bit and was on a roll. When I started getting my hours cut at work, I found myself sliding big time. After getting nowhere, I quit the job and relocated, but that was a big mistake too. I had to stop on Atkins because of the expense, and just found myself putting on the weight I lost. I was going through a bad time, as well.

Now that I'm financially stable, and things are looking up, I'm getting back on board and lose the weight I put back on... and then some. I have a belt that reminds me of just how much I lost within the 9 months. I started Induction this morning, and this time I plan to stick with it. I need to drop 200 lbs for sure, not sure what my weight is (no scales), I never weighed myself the last time. In all honesty, I felt weighing in was kinda discouraging. I just kept at it and could tell I was dropping the weight by loose jeans, adding a notch to the belt, and able to walk a lot more.

I know Atkins works, and I know the support here is amazing, and some great meal ideas too. I remember being on Induction for an extra week the first time, I've thought about doing that again, maybe even up to a month. I'm ready to make a change, and that starts today! I just need to get over the first 2-4 weeks, then I'll be ok.

I'm wanting to lose 100 lbs before next summer, being that it's almost October... I really need to stay focused. I live in an upstairs Apt. and have no place for a bike, so I went and purchased a Wii and plan to workout with the Tennis and Bowling games that are included. Does anyone use the Wii Fit? I'm debating on buying it, and would like your input.

Sorry for the long post, thought I would re-introduce myself since it's been a few years. By the way, my name is Shane, I'm 35. and from Illinois.

Hi Shane! welcome back. I have that much to lose as well. I was on atkins diet once before too and gained it back plus 5 pounds. I am on my second week of induction.
I hope things go well for you.

Hi Shane, glad you're back, and you're on the right track. Have never used the Wii Fit, but tried the boxing thing last spring. What a hoot! And burned a lot of calories too.

I hope you'll get out your copy of the book and re-read it, because if you really study it you'll get lots of ideas about how to stick with it. I'm always curious when people say the expense of the diet is a concern for them. When I started buying groceries for this plan, my bill went down. So much of those things I used to snack on, like potato chips, pop, ice cream, cookies, and such, were really expensive.

Vegetables are pretty cheap. I've made vegetables a whole new area of exploration, and it's been a blast finding out how to cook them, try new ones I've never tried before, and really make them a big part of my menu every day. I hope you'll do the same, and you'll never get bored with this way of eating.

Congratulations on getting started again, you really have made a good move for your mental, emotional, and physical health. Keep posting, this is a really good forum. Good people come here. Welcome back.

Re: Here I go, round 2!

Thanks for the support everyone, unfortunately I was informed that I need to stop the diet and meet with a Dietitian. I told my Doctor, actually one of his RN's that I was on the diet and she said that I need to be on a diet being that I'm recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. I saw the section on the board, and was telling her about some of the awesome results people have had. She told me, what Atkins is taking away, I actually need, and some of the stuff it gives, I need to cut back on. it's hard to explain, but I'm in no mood to argue about it. So I'm kinda down about that, and just hope this meeting with a Diatian is positive.

Was really excited to report back and let you folks know how my journey the second time around. Maybe after while, I can get back on it and drop the weight. Right now, I just gotta follow what the Doctor says and just avoid locking horns. Wish me luck, I'm gonna need it.
