  • Five years later and I'm finally ready to try again :o)

    Hello all,

I don't know if any of my old friends are still around; I have to confess I don't remember their names. I was part of this community from July to November of 2003. I can't believe this board still had my info and my puppy's pic stored!

Well, last time I tried Atkins, I lost 21 pounds in about 3 weeks then hit a plateau, got discouraged, and quit. I was also having trouble dealing with the "induction flu" symptoms and working 80 hours a week.

Since then I have not dieted at all, neither have I exercised much. I gained back 18 of the 21 pounds lost and have been maintaining that weight beautifully since then. Unfortunately, it's the wrong weight to maintain! I only wish I were this good at maintaining 20 years ago.

I had a wake-up call recently when I was faced with the decision of either getting control over the processed carbs in my diet and greatly improving my dental hygiene OR face a full set of dentures eventually. I chose to stay in the fight, had sedation dentistry, got my mouth all cleaned up and purty, made neurotic home dental hygiene habits my new religion, and am backing it up with a better diet. With a little luck, I should keep all my teeth for another 40 years.

Also for the first time in my life, my blood pressure is starting to inch up and that's never been a problem before even though I've been overweight for the last 20 years and morbidly obese for the last 10. So I better get a handle on that too, if I want to live long enough to be the crotchedy, sarcastic, dirty-minded old woman I've always wanted to be.

So now I'm back. I started yesterday morning fresh. I couldn't find my old book, but was able to buy a new-to-me book off Amazon for a penny plus $3.99 S&H. Such a deal!

My sweet Boxer little puppy, who lets me borrow her name as a "nom de online" and posed for my avitar pic, is now an 87 pound horse and still the love of my life... but don't tell that to my other dog, my 4 cats, or the stud muffin who's been keeping me warm at night for the last 8 years. They all get SO jealous, you know?

    Have an awesome day, everyone!

    Love,
    ~Petra~
