  • I am TERRIFIED!!

    Hi everybody,
i' d like to share with you the complete disappointment on myself, the agony if what I'm doing is right, the frustration about my growing appetite, the horror of the scale showing more rather than less.........the measurements show a cm more all over, and my fat ratio has climbed to 30%

As i have mentioned in past threads i am desperately trying to lose 3 kilos! It may be very silly to others, but for me it's an extremely big deal.
I don't wanna look like a model i just want to get back in my favorite pair of jeans and not be embarrassed to show my upper arms -it's where it shows the most!

The thing is that since i first started in June or so, i got it for 5 weeks, got down to 63,5 (from starting point 66,5). Then vacation etc.... completely lost it!
Then came September, the month of starting everything nice and fresh!
    Atkins and lots of gym.

And here is my catastrofic last month:
my appetite has sky-rocketed, i' m hungry all time, i come on and off atkins, listened to some people saying how ATKINS is very dangerous for my health, tried some low fat diet for 2-3 days, was more hungry, tried some fat burners and carb blockers and high protein- "2 active carb" chocolates, that probably make me more hungry, experienced some kind of boulimic crisis, for the first time in my life, by eating about 3 different kinds of chocolat bars and then trying to throwup- fortunatly i realised what i was doing at the same second- AND NOW AFTER ALL THAT ....I'm heavier than ever: 68 kilos.
Some friend even said that Atkins is to blaim, people tend to lose, gain it back plus even more!!!
    I am TERRIFIED!!
Please advise! I just want to be 62 kilos like 2-3 years ago. It cant be that hard! Needless to say that i love eating carbs.

    Thank you for listening!

    Re: I am TERRIFIED!!

Mumu- I'm sorry you're feeling freaked out. I can empathize, I really can. I hope it doesn't make you more upset or angry with me, but I'm going to be very honest with you. If thats not what you want or need, you may do well to skip the rest of this post.

my appetite has sky-rocketed, i' m hungry all time, i come on and off atkins, listened to some people saying how ATKINS is very dangerous for my health, tried some low fat diet for 2-3 days, was more hungry, tried some fat burners and carb blockers and high protein- "2 active carb" chocolates, that probably make me more hungry, experienced some kind of boulimic crisis, for the first time in my life, by eating about 3 different kinds of chocolat bars
What part of any of the stuff you listed here is Atkins? It's not a yo-yo diet. It's not something you hop on and hop off of. It's not something you switch up with low-fat dieting. You can't buy "Skinny-In-A-Bottle"- there are no magic cures, gimmicks, quick fixes etc. The low-carb junk food is exactly that- junk food. And if you've done your reading and research, people popping off ignorant statements about a tried and true, healthy way of eating wouldn't phase you.

The Atkins way of eating isn't the problem here, hon - it's what you're doing with it.

You have choices here. You can choose to sabotage the he|| out of yourself or you can dig in, know that this is about choices and personal responsibility and get it done. YOU have the power to do that.

If it were easy- everyone would do it and no one would be scrambling to lose weight. The way of eating isn't hard- but finding it within yourself to stop trading what you want most for what you want at the moment IS hard.

Do you love eating the carbs as much or more than you hate feeling the way you do? Because if the answer is yes...you're not ready to do this. If it's no, then make a decision, read/read/read, plan your menus, get your exercise in, STICK TO IT and stop looking for magic. You have to work at this, you have to stick with this, you have to be patient even when you don't want to be and it *will* happen.

There's one thing I can promise you out of all of this- if you continue to do what you're doing, you're only going to get what you have. If you want more you have to change what you're doing.

YOU have the power here. YOU can do this. YOU are worth it. It's okay to get discouraged, to be frustrated, to be pissed off - but it's only fair if you are truly doing everything in your power - and even then I'm gonna tell you to hang in there and be patient while I hug you because I've been there.

I truly hope you take this in the spirit it's intended in. The last thing I want to do is add insult to injury. What I want for you is success and I believe it's within your reach.

Do what needs doing, mumu. YOu are worth it!

      Dear Brook,

thank you very much and don't worry about me being angry at you!
You're totally right and i know it. It was with me that i was upset and freaked out, because i know all this, I've studied the book and I've read every thread in this wonderful forum.

It just that, when friends, family, TV and magazines praise the low-fat, many fruits& veggies, whole grain pasta and rice, breakfast cereals ( special-k with law fat milk gave me a crazy appetite after 2 hours) and debate you and your huge omelet with bacon, mushrooms and full fat cheese, you find yourself in the corner wondering who is right! In a vulnerable moment when you think some sweet will do the trick, you grab a bite of salmon with cream cheese and they argue with you for not having an apple instead.

I'm not saying the others sabotage me! I am!
No one forced me to eat this or that...but when other give you the doubt + "you're fine, you don't need to lose weight, you're over exaggerating", your will power goes... straight to the chocolate vending machine!

Anyway, your reply was exactly what i needed to snap out of it! Many thanks!
By the way... your change is amazing! Those photos are great!

I want to be thin! I want to be 62 kilos!
I started again on Saturday morning 67.5.
Monday morning 66.8, goal weight 62 at Christmas

Have a great low carb week!

        Re: I am TERRIFIED!!

Hey Mumu, I belive Brook's post was one of the best ever posted! She has told the truth, and she has been on all sides of this diet herself.
You know your body needs consistency. Many many many diets will work, but if we are not consistent with ONE of them, nothing will work.
Getting calmed down, organized and consistent on a plan you can work will smooth out a ton of wrinkles that are tossing you round and round.
Glad Brook's post hit the spot! You can do this!

          Re: I am TERRIFIED!!

I totally agree. Brook that was awesome!! It is tough sometimes and I can relate to some of mumu's post. I have two friends that are in this with me but they are using WW and Jennie Craig. They mean well but keep sending me these recipes that are focused on low fat. My husband mentioned that I should send them one of mine. I told him they would freak out! He said it would be funny,

Anyway, mumu ..stay with the plan and you will see results. Both Jess and Brook are GREAT examples of what you can accomplish by sticking with it. It is not easy but the results are well worth it.

          Good luck!!

I hate to say this, but bump what people tell you you should do. This little rant is NOT directed to you, but it just burns me up so that people try to shove down your throat what THEY think you should be doing. This is your body. YOU KNOW that CRAP like chocolate bars, sugar, candy is NOT even a part of a low-fat diet. But NO ONE seems to have a problem with people eating that mess. But try to eat some meat or cheese or control your carbs and then someone has a real problem.

How dare they!?! There is NOTHING wrong with eating meat or eggs, or veggies. What if you could not tolerate gluten? What if you have an allergic reaction to wheat and pasta? What will those people say then. When I first started I just simply told people the truth as to why I didn't eat pasta, or some crap they thought I should. I told them I don't like pasta (I really could take it or leave it) and I can't eat a lot of sugary crap because I have insulin resistance and eating that stuff makes it worse.

You don't have to say you are doing Atkins, that's your business. If you feel that people are going to use Atkins to tell you what to eat and you don't want to hear it, don't give them that piece of information. Remember Atkins isn't forever at a 20 net carb phase. You do go on to maintenance and there are steps to help you realize what foods you can eat and will sabotage your efforts. You will be able to *in moderation* be able to eat grains, but you have to crawl before you walk, and walk before you run.

              Re: I am TERRIFIED!!

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply!
I thought of doing my Atkins without telling anyone... using some little excuses like: " I'm not hungry, i cant drink- i'm on antibiotics, i hate bread, I'm allergic to nutella" lollllllllllllll
Unfortunately, I'm surrounded with loving family and friends who know me very very well.
So i try to convince them and even persuade them to try it.
Anyway, i have to admit that i cant do the induction, first because i really don't have the time to count and measure so I'm always at about 28-30 carbs and also because i made a nice excuse, reading the book, that one doesn't need to start from induction- especially if there are only few kilos to lose. So i'm keeping it as strict as possible but with a little more veggies, cheese (that i adore- of course i try not to have more than 150gr per day -5-6 oz), i drink half a glass of wine or a diet coke once in a while.
I'm trying! The hard part is to never lose determination. I've watched myself having a bite of a "forbidden" food and then thinking that the whole effort was destroyed so why not eat everything in sight and start over tomorrow?

Nice having all of you to share my thoughts

              Thanks again
