  • Failed...yet again!

    Hello everyone,

This is my second time around in Atkins. First time i went from 155 lbs to 136 lbs. I have put on a lot of weight due to a very bad phase in my life (CW:165lbs). Now i have decided to lose this weight once and for all. I dont feel pretty anymore, i hide behind baggy clothes and run away from meeting family/friends. As a result i have become so lonely.
Everytime i start, i fall off the wagon due to emotional eating and drinking problem. 10 days was the maximum i could stretch this time. I have a big event coming up in first week of Dec and i will appreciate it very much if you guys can help me stay motivated. Do you guys think i could lose 15-20 lbs by staying on Induction for 7 weeks?
P.S: i am also working out 45 mins , 5 days a week. (30 min cardio, 15 min weight training)

    Re: Failed...yet again!

    Tania,

I feel like I'm in the same position you are. I lost 40 lbs and kept it off for over a year, only to put on 50 lbs and feel miserable again. I've tried to do Atkins for the past month, but after a few weeks I sort of gave up and started putting the weight back on again (I had lost 10 lbs, gained back 6). I'm fairly young and most of my social events involve drinking, which is tough when I'm on Atkins. I have stopped hanging out with friends or joining in on activities because of my weight and would love some support to stay on my diet again. If you need help as well, feel free to contact me. Otherwise, best of luck to you!

Hi, ladies First of all, here's a hug ... we all need more hugs!

NOW ... Atkins is a lifestyle, not a quick fix; but you knew that already. You've got to be committed to changing bad habits and embracing new ones because you want to feel and look better ... you want to regain your health! Without that, what have you got, really?

If you really want this, you can do it!

Read the book (or reread it), get rid of all the crappy food in your house, stock up on the good stuff, and jump on the bandwagon. Check in with this board often; read everything; ask questions; join in the Challenges as they keep you motivated. Drink plenty of water! Exercise (*groan!*). Take your vitamins. This is a great site for support and information ... it's up to you to take advantage of it.

C'mon, ladies ... you can do it!

How do I join challenges? I'm definitely looking for some support this time around instead of doing it on my own.

That's the spirit! Go to the Portal page and look near the top ... you'll see "Popular Tags" ... click on "challenges" and they'll pop up ... plenty to choose from The Water Challenge goes month to month and is a good one ... who drinks enough water, really? With Atkins, it's imperative! Just poke around and see what looks good to you ... some you can join anytime; others have a specific sign-up date.

Go for it! What have you got to lose but weight?

            LovelyLulu,

I am 28 myself, and i know how that is. I just feel miserable when i go out with friends and see that they eat/drink everything and still stay skinny. How do you bail out from a situation like that? Is it absolutely a bad idea to go out for dinner when you are on induction?

One thing to remember that is very important. You have never REALLY failed until you GIVE UP.... SO dont give up Attitude will take you a long way in this battle. Also, find the things that seem to trip you up and avoid them like the plague. Ive learned from experience that there is no such thing as "just a taste" of a non-atkins legal food....I'm in the same boat as you all are. Weight on then off then on....and all because I depart from this lifestyle and think I can do something different. It never works for me..., but I'll just keep trying until I get there! (((HUGS))) to you all!

Thanks so much, this really means a lot to me. This time i am determined to make it work. But what do you do when you attend social events when people wine and dine sitting beside you??

You order a non-alcoholic drink, maybe even a diet soda if they don't stall you and you look over the menu for legal foods. If they are having pizza, you can eat the toppings, just not the crust. Have a cheeseburger without the bun but skip the fries. Have a salad, and while you watch them eating the things that will someday catch up with them one way or another, congratulate yourself for your sense and commitment. Remember, they're not eating the 'good' stuff, they're eating the 'bad' stuff.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

You eat, drink, and enjoy the outing! You have a bun-less burger, you have a fabulous, decadent salad with meat, cheese, and full tasty fat dressing. I have ordered a BLT with x-tra bacon and just not eaten the toast!!! Get a fancy bottled water with a lemon in it. If you get to the appropriate rung and would like an alcoholic beverage, have one. I am a diet coke and vodka gal myself.

I can tell you with full knowledge that there isn't anything on any menu that you could eat that will make you feel as good as reaching your goal weight! Nothing!!!! It is hard work, but it is worth it!

Yes, yes, YESSSSS to all the above comments. Hey, when you get older, socializing still revolves around food and drink. It never goes away unless you hide yourself in a closet and then you have to hang out with all those fat clothes! LOL. Get out your Atkins book and read, read, read. Dr. Atkins says we can have up to a glass of wine 2-3 times per week at any level of the plan after Induction. As the person above said, once you work up the rungs you can add alcohol to your menu. Once you really get the idea of how the plan works, and you do this by trying new things, making new recipes, perhaps making a few notes about how and what you are eating, comparing your results to your notes...once you get the hang of it you can go into just about any restaurant and order straight from the menu. See how many times Dr. Atkins talks in the book about eating out in fancy restaurants, and how much he talks about how food should be a pleasure, not a chore. You can do it, too!

                        Re: Failed...yet again!

Kudos to you for making the decision to get healthy.

You're on the right track - exercise + Atkins = Success.

I know I'm going to repeat some of the previous posters info...

You shouldn't have to stay on Induction for 7 weeks in order to lose weight. Move up the rungs, feed the machine - Especially if you'e exercising.

Also - if you can, try upping the amount of time you spend weight training. Building muscle helps burn calories, even at rest. Don't worry about "bulking up" - big misconception. Women don't have the amount of testosterone needed to "bulk up". You might think it's happening at first - just water weight your muscles are holding on to - they need it to help repair themselves - not a biggie, it will go away...

When you're in a social situation and see people eating foods that you would normally crave - just picture them as feeding their body CRAP. Who is healthy? YOU. Eat something beforehand or make an Atkins friendly dish to share.

You can totally do this, you've done it before, and you'll do it again. You are wiser and more in tune to your body.

                        Best of luck to you!
