  • eat cabs to break plateu??

iv heard that if your doing the low carb thing and get into a plateu, it helps to eat somthing with a high carb content for one day. then go back to the low carb diet to break the plateu. anyone know of this?

i know people will say add 5 more carbs to your intake for a week to see if you start losing again but not to eat just high carb foods then the next day go back.. try highering the carb amount you have everyday go from 20 to 25

It works for some, but it is a dangerous path to travel.

And it certainly isn't doing Atkins.

I've actually heard that eating more fat can break a plateau.

It works for my husband. But like missnikki said, "it's not atkins"

I think changing your exercise regimen is a good strategy too. Your body gets used to the 'same ole.'

My answer to your question would depend on where you are in the plan. ARe you on Induction or OWL? Because in OWL you do add 5g carb per week but in a controlled manner.

Also what are you calling a plateau? I think there are some guidelines about that written up on the OWL forum. Also are you certain you are having a plateau, or are there other positive changes that you could calculate into your success equation. For example, maybe the scale hasn't changed but your clothes are looser, or your shoes are too big, or your ring is falling off your hand...all signs of "weight loss" that may not register on the scale yet....Just some ideas to toss around...

There are lots of other potential 'stall breakers' mentioned in the book as well, L-Carnitine is just one.

I would discourage having a carb day, just because then you have the whole carb detox process to do over.. and I hate that process!

Carb cycling, it's not Atkins. If you love having cravings (since you're basically going in and out of ketosis), then perhaps you would enjoy this though. Like the others have said, there are much better ways to get through a plateau that don't involve the slippery slope of carbs. Just my thoughts.
