  • IM still here and going...

I got an email from Tom and thought I would check in and let all know that I am still low carbing.. no longer on induction or extended induction..its been a little over 3 months now since I started.
I am doing about 40 carbs..I am so glad that I am on atkins again, I feel so much better that I started doing it again.. I have my moments but I dont let that get the best of me... whatever sinful pleasure I decide to indulge in, I know its okay-MODERATION is the key to my indulges-I share a shake with my hubby or eat half a brownie...and if I need to, I go back below the 40 carbs-but that doesnt mean that everyday or every week I go overboard or indulge... I am losing about a 1lb a week and I have 28 lbs to go for my goal and going slow for me right now is okay because there is no time frame for me to lose the weight besides this is my way of eating and my AWOL...next week I may kick it up a notch but the thing that is helping me the most is EXERCISING.. I have to admit I forgot how good that felt...that I feel better when I exercise and eat better... for instance..one night I decided to eat chicken fried steak and all the stuff that goes with it ...I was at my mother in laws..usually I stick to my low carb meals especially at night and after eating the above mentioned. I felt so full, so sleepy, so stuffed and it was just horrible... that was the last time I ate such a heavy meal and that was about a month ago..never again...think about the meal you had last that was so high in carbs..how did you feel? I know it was the best dam tasting food but how did you really feel? I know I was MISERABLE!!!!! So I am so glad I have my way of eating, our way of eating is a good thing...so just so yall know, I havent lost track so dont you lose track either.. I have been busy and alot going on but Im still here..in mind, spirit, and low carb body
I will keep in touch and keep up the great work yall...

Hey Elma G, thanks so much for your post. I remember from when I restarted this year, at least one of your early posts, from the pics, and from what you wrote in your siggy. Good to hear from you again, and that you are doing so well. It truly helps to hear the stories of how you are hanging in there, and especially your way of looking at it, that 1 lb a week is a good rate of loss for you. In the past I wanted to "get it all off" but I've realized that slow and steady can also win the race! I'm adapting my behavior as I go along, and that it going to lock in this way of eating to a permanent thing in my life. That's what your story makes me think of, too. So thanks for sharing your journey with us, it's a good inspiration for me today....

Hey Redfoxglove, thanks and Im glad my posts' give inspiration, also I see our stats are almost identical... my CW-was around 209 and yours was 208...congrats on your weight loss- well keep up the great work-we have to remind ourselves that this isnt torture-this is the way it needs to be and thats okay..but not finishing this time is not an option-OKAY!!
And yea- I started to try to get it all off really fast then I thought no- I dont want to and it took me a whole year plus a couple of months to lose 100 pounds the 1st time but 30 came off the first few weeks then it was slow going from there... but that was okay- i did it for so long that it was normal for me after a while.. you know how you go thru the times that you dont lose any weight, that was when I thought I would just give up then a friend recommended running... I did and that got me down 10 pounds in one month ( it was summer and I was running in 100 degree weather-yikes) and then I got so firm and toned.. it was the best thing I could of done for myself. It wasnt easy but I did it.. I couldnt even run a whole lap at first then i worked mysely up to 7 minute miles.....so Im gonna work myself up to it again..so wish me luck, bad knee and all....

Thanks, actually I have "gained and lost" quite a few pounds but over the last 2 years have kept up a steady loss. I am not sure if accepting the slow and steady thing is just a sign of maturing thought process (finally! ?) ... but I'll take it!

Yeah, I loved running when I was younger, in my 20s and 30s, but I really can't b/c of a low back injury that reactivates if I try. Have you heard of taking glucosamine for joint problems? I would LOVE to run again, it is such a free feeling and makes you feel strong...but for me it's bicycling now and yoga...

Yes, keep going, keep doing it, and do check back in from time to time to let us know whatz up...

Well keep up whatever you can do-it all helps, how do you like yoga? I was actually going to try it, I found a website that gives instruction on common yoga positions and I bookmarked it to give it a try...I do glucosimine and chondrotin (think its spelled right..) combo suppplements for my knee- last night I ran and walked on my treadmill and then I iced it down and took my supplements and this morning my knee felt great.. I think the ice thing is the trick. you know i never tried the ice -dont know why but it seemed to make a difference...hmmm.
Yes I will check back from time to time to give updates and you do the same. thanks for listening..have a great day!!!!

Re: IM still here and going...

Yoga is awesome for so many reasons. There's a great CD set called Yoga Zone. I take a class 2x week. In the past I've had classes, it's the best thing I do for myself.

Ice is good on your knee, it reduces the swelling. Another good thing for knee pain is to have deep tissue massage on the muscles of the upper and lower leg, ie, front and back thigh, inner thigh, and calf. Most of those muscles cross the knee joint, so working them with massage releases tension in the muscles and thus tension on the joint. As a massage practitioner and a massage recipient with knee problems, I can tell you, it really helps.

            Yeah, have a great week....
