  • Starting Over and messing up already!!

OK, so I decided to rededicate myself to my Atkins lifestyle. I figured this time I would do everything I needed to do an have what I needed so as not to have any excuses when it comes to eating. I went to the grocery store and got veggies, low-fat cheese, lean meat, etc...and Atkins bars and shakes. Then I read that the bars and shakes are bad! What the ?

I have been eating them for the past couple of days as a daily "treat" to make the transition from no sugar easier. Now I am totally depressed and disappointed. However, I will not let this stop me. (Though I must admit I loved the cinnamon bun bars and was anxious to try the coconut bar ) I have put the bars away, and if I ever feel tempted to fall off the wagon during this journey, then at least I won't fall far.

For now, I will stick to my lean meat, cheese and veggies for a snack. I suppose I will be technically "restarting" tomorrow.

Hi there, and good for you for putting aside those Frankenfoods, which are not held in high regard around here. Best to stick with real food and save the bars/shakes for when you have no better option ... and not during Induction, at any rate. Yeah, the sugar withdrawal is not a ton of fun but it does go away ... believe me, I used to be a massive sugar junkie, too!

Anyway, it sounds like you have your pantry well stocked and are ready to embrace Atkins! Good for you .... check in here often because the information and support you'll find here are invaluable!

Re: Starting Over and messing up already!!

I have restarted and messed up about 5 times over the past two weeks. I can't figure out why I keep doing this. I was successful the last time, 5 years ago, and was within 5-10 pounds of my goal. I now am 25 pounds heavier, the last 15 pounds gained since summer. I look awful. Sometimes when I am up at night to the bathroom I catch a glimspe of myself and actually scare myself, stopping to see if it is possible that I am really looking this way. If I can just get started I know I will be successful again... I start out doing well with breakfast and even lunch but at the end of the day I am simply too tired to worry about it. The chicken or the egg phenomenon, if I were not so heavy, I would not be so tired. I am joining this board because I need some help, I am so hoping I can do this again.

Good for you for catching the mistake and correcting it. This is a way of life and a journey, and you just have to keep moving above all else. Commitment is commitment, focus and move onward. The book this site sticks by is the 2002 edition of Dr. Atkins New Diet Revolution.
You can eat regular cheese too. Fats are critical to the ketogenic diet....No need to go low fat....

Hey, don't feel bad. I made the same mistake. At least you have an idea what it is,and now you can correct it.

I know what you mean about the feeling of disbelief. Don't let it discourage you, though. You are doing something about it, and that's what counts! In the meantime, it may be healthy just to stay away from the mirror for awhile.

Are you distributing your carbs out fairly evenly during the day? Are you drinking enough water? If you aren't doing so, this may add to fatigue. Also, remember that fatigue isn't totally uncommon the first few weeks. Maybe you could plan your entire menu out in the morning, and then try to follow it to the letter throughout the day. That would reduce the need for you to try and do any type of planning when you are tired.
