Re: anyone do induction without exercise and lost weight??
Yes... It would be better to try and get a little exercise but I lost without much exercise at first. Even now, 60 pounds later, I only walk for 20-30 minutes 3 times a week on average and do a little strength training. As I lose more weight it is easier to do more and so I am just listening to my body. I would suggest at least a little bit of walking but you can lose without it
BTW exercise is actually a required part of Dr. Atkins plan and I think following it the way he wrote it gives the best results. Good luck with your induction!

Re: anyone do induction without exercise and lost weight??
I actually followed the eating portion of the plan many years ago and lost quite a bit of weight while avoiding any form of physical activity (minus walking to/from my car).
I must admit, the results are much better while doing something and, like Lacey said, it is part of the plan that Dr. Atkins refers to as the "triad". He said even if it's just walking around the block, you should be doing something.

The very best of luck thru Induction.
I too hope you are able to add a Slooooooow but steady routine later.
The Best answer to your question comes from DR A:
Doing Atkin's without doing exercise "can be done",
but it's like riding a bike with flat tires!
It's a whole lot harder!Male/46

Re: anyone do induction without exercise and lost weight??
i was really gung ho into exercise a coule of months ago.. going to the gym every day for an hour and a half... doing the eliptical for 60 min on a high level and doing weight training **** even going on the stair machine 40 fllights of stairs.. but two things happened after about 2 months.. one my knee is hurting now and 2 I got burned out.. I wasn´t really loosing any great weight because I wasn´t dieting... now I hope to add some back but I am just not ready... (lazy haha.. I have a 5 month old who doesn´t sleep through the night yet and am going back to work week after next) so I hope maybe to just go and use the treadmill walking... I hope I can find the motivation soon... maybe after I loose some more weight I will have more energy.. thanks for your repliesmeli

Re: anyone do induction without exercise and lost weight??
Hi Melimeli,
I've basically been doing Induction without exercise, because I've had the "flu" so bad, AND a head cold that's turned into a bad chest cold to boot.I'm just finishing up day 5 of Induction now, and I'm starting to feel a tiny bit better. Yesterday, I did housework for four hours, and tried to keep moving at a brisk pace the whole time. Today, I'm going to do the same, and scrub the kitchen floor.I'll tell you in a week and a day if I lose weight. I'm NOT stepping on a scale again until I reach day 14 of Induction
But I can tell you, my clothes are already a bit looser. I am very strict about sticking with a totally clean induction, though.
When you get feeling better and get back to working out, I suggest you start off at a more moderate pace, like three or four times a week. Your ligaments, joints, and muscles need to get accustomed to the different activity. It also might help if you break up the days you do weight training and the days you do cardio. Studies have shown that moderate, steady exercise can give you greater fitness gains than long daily workouts. If you work out too hard, your muscles don't have time to repair themselves (it's the little breakdowns in the tissue and the repair to those breakdowns that builds muscle), and your ligaments and joints can get stressed to the point of injury with constant long, hard workouts.
Good luck to you! I hope you start feeling better soon

Re: anyone do induction without exercise and lost weight??
Having done Atkins many times and having walked around with an extra 85lbs and been living a sedandary life I know getting moving is really hard. I also know doing Atkins and getting settled into it is very hard. Changing our lives is hard work, and we have to push through ourselves. I've always done my best changing doing things one at a time. I start the diet, and then get moving. Or I started moving and then added the diet. One protects the other, one compliments the other, both really make a huge difference in your health and lifestyle!
I encourage you to get out and take a walk, begin to just get moving! Wow what a great difference that will make. Start slow, and just get that settled into your life, then eventually move more towards intensity and training efforts!74 8/1/06
