  • Wanna run with me...a 5K that is..

    Hello All STACers,

    A few weeks ago I was trying to decide if I could attempt to run again since I have a bad knee from an old injury. ... I was afraid to try because of the knee pain I was having. I will be honest there has been a lot of sitting around lately and my knee was all stiff and then I thought to myself... just do it- I threw the excuse out the window and went for it.
    It was painful at first but now I hardly feel any pain -the pain is almost gone- not 100% but its great-my knee isnt stiff anymore. I can run 3 minutes straight without too much pain which is better than 1 minute. I run/walk to make sure I dont over work my knee. I make sure to ice it down after so that I can run the next day..and take my supplements. Im so glad that I did it, it has given me so much strength and I feel super great.
    So I decided Im going to try to run/ walk a 5K again.. I did one almost 4 years ago and thought how nice it would be to try another one. I may not run the whole race like the last time but you never know-so Im gonna run/walk it anyway. So I am asking any one who lives in the Dallas, Texas Area to come join me. It is the Run The Rock/ Mayors Race at White Rock Lake. Its only $5 to participate and its non competitive, its just gonna be a fun run to do. Walkers are also welcome, so get out there and join me and throw all the excuses out the window and just do it... we can all meet up, encourage each other and have a blast together.
    HOW GOOD WILL YOU FEEL FINISHING A RACE!!
    YOU WILL FEEL AWESOME.. Lets do this.

    I have lost about 20 pounds (not sure of my actual starting weight) to date since I started Atkins in August and have 26 pounds to go for my goal of 165. I have set a mini goal for myself: lose 6 pounds by race day...so that will put me at 185 so come on race day...

    Congrats on getting moving and being very careful and slowly building up endurance. I love being involved with races, it keeps me moving, training and growing!

        Hello Elma, How is the training going??

        I did a 5k in July and it was incredible. I ran about 3/4 and walked the rest but it was just amazing to experience. The idea of me in a race would have been laughable two years ago! If I lived anywhere nearby I'd be there with you but unfortunately I'm too far away! But we'll all be urging you onwards from here!

          Thanks for the message and you are my first reply. yea to bad your far but I will be there with bells on..I did manage to talk my sister in law and a friend to go with me, and I will walk it since they dont want to run and I promised them not to leave them behind. I will be fast walking thats for sure and they better keep up.Ha!

            Good for you and I'm glad you've got some friends to do it with you! That really makes a difference! I did mine with my Mom, Sister and boyfriend and it was a good bonding experience for us, too! My BF and sister left Mom and I in the dust (they're both runners!) but it still felt like a group event! I hope you have fun! Are you guys getting together to walk a lot before the race?

              one of my friends and I live close and we have been. We are also doing aerobics which I knows sounds very 80's but man is it fun, walking and of course I run on my treadmill. My sister in law lives too far and she is doing her own thing, but she is getting ready.. I ran a race back about 5 years ago and I trained for that hard. ran 4 miles in 100 degree weather, after work...5 days a week and I got my race done in a little over 30 minutes.. Im not superfast but getting thru it was a breeze. I can only hope my medeochre training this time will be enough. Ha!
