  • Fat loss vs water loss

For the past year i have started and stopped Induction 100 times +/- ....

I start, lose about 5-7 lbs .. then don't lose any more weight and my inches stay the same ...after a few weeks, i just give up..

It makes me feel like i am just losing the water weight the first week, but my body never kicks into the fat burning stage.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

How long do did it take you to start losing pounds or inches again?

Are you exercising and getting enough water? Are you not only weighing yourself, but also taking measurements? Sometimes you lose inches befire you lose weight.

I have this similar weight loss pattern, but I'm just hanging in there and avoiding the scales. Eventually my body will have to react to what I'm putting in there, so I try not to worry about it too much if I'm still following the diet. Too, I really think I need to up my water. It's amazing what a difference it makes.

How long are you sticking to the program? Are you excersizing? Are you drinking enough water?

It's so easy to start and then get excited when the scale falls. And when the scale stops falling and your body starts adjusting for a bit before the scale moves again, it's even easier to quit.

Especially if you have been doing induction off and on, you've probably messed up your metabolism and your body a bit. It doesn't know what to expect, so it's holding onto every little fat cell it can. You have to "train" your body, so sometimes after restarting Atkins several times it takes 4-6 weeks to do that and get yourself back on track.

Thats what i was thinkking. That my body is so used to being low carb, then no, then low carb, then not ... i just don't lose on low carb now .. I'v been going about 2-3 weeks each time...

This time i AM going to stick with it long term and i wll just have to acept that it may be 4-6 weeks like you said before i se some results ... I know it wil be worth it ..

          Thanks

Re: Fat loss vs water loss

When I did induction in the past, I noticed that certain things hindered my weight loss efforts.

            Specifically
            Diet drinks
            artificial sweeteners
            cheese
            sour cream
            avocado
            Olives

I know that is pretty much textbook from Atkins regarding things that can slow weight loss.

I pushed myself over the hump with extra cardio sessions.

I don't know if I helped any, but thought I'd suggest switching up what you are eating and burning off more calories. The weight has got to budge!!

You could have messed things up metabolically and just need to stay firmly on. Let go of results and let your body adjust. Read the book, especially the later chapters about on going and life long maint. there is a bunch of relevant information there for you.
Initially we do loose water weight, because carbs actually cause us to retain water when we eat them. So you do experience the whoosie in that induction period. I would follow induction very carefully, and exercise how ever your body can tolerate. I'd give it a few months to really kick in. Just let that part go, or it will HOUND you.....
I'm sure you body will eventually start to respond. Read the book again looking for clues and answers in light of where you are, it will be of great value to you.
