I'm just curious. Has anyone here had success after falling off the wagon? Thanks.

Re: Has anyone here had success the 2nd time around?

Hi, Miss125! I'm guessing that you have fallen off the wagon and you're back for round two. (Forgive me if I'm wrong). Be careful not to determine whether you will succeed/fail based on what others have done. If you want this bad enough, if you are ready mentally, if you follow what Dr. Atkins suggests, then you CAN and WILL have success. How badly do you want to succeed? Think of the reasons that are motivating you right now and tuck them away so you can remember them if things get rocky.

I think a lot of people have had tremendous success the second, third, fourth, etc time around.

I was on and off the wagon from the beginning of August through December 11. Since my restart on December 11 I have had great success. I've lost 17 pounds, I'm determined to stay on track, I'm eating right and exercising a ton. If you count my short term success, then YES!

Three weeks and one day isn't a true indicator of my long term success, though. Let's see where I am on my one year anniversary on February 24 and six months after that, and this time next year.

I think true success is making this a way of life and not a quick fix.

Re: Has anyone here had success the 2nd time around?

        Yes, you will have success.

I started way back in 2005 at 187 pounds and lost down to about 168. I had a series of family emergencies that got me off track and I gained 13 pounds back over two years. I am just starting over again. I have lost 3.5 pounds this week.

Eating carbs is what caused me to gain the weight back. This way of eating works, and it is the failure to continue on a low carb lifestyle that puts the pounds back on.

Don't despair and hang in there, many of us are just starting over and will lose the weight together!!

Re: Has anyone here had success the 2nd time around?

          Hello,

I am on my 2nd time around and although I am not losing the weight as fast as I did before, I have a much different attitude and have found great success. I konw that my body can not tolerate carbs and eating fast food crap. I feel 100% eating the Atkins way. It isn't how fast the pounds come off, but the fact that they do. I didn't put them on in 1 week, it is going to take some time for them to fall. I am changing my lifestyle and looking for a long term healthy journey. Don't look look at it as falling off the wagon, but rather, take a detour. Best of luck to you!!!!

Re: Has anyone here had success the 2nd time around?

I have found it easier this time round. I lost just over 30 pounds in 2004 and then got pregnant so stopped this WOE.
I am determined to get to goal this time. I have to do it and I am doing everything I can to get there (apart from three planned days off at Christmas!)
            Good luck x

And I'll add....what you put into this way of eating and exercise, is what you're going to get out of it. Anything is possible. You just have to believe it and do it.

woo hoo! I just read your posts and am totally psyched! Thank you clogger for putting things in perspective along with everyone else. I am remembering I want this for health reasons and to be the best me I can be. Also, my 3 year old niece is coming to charleston next year, and I want to be able to keep up with her. Thanks again, you are truly lovely people here. If I think of anything that gives me success, I will be sure to post it. Now, if you will excuse me, I think I hear my work out gear calling!

Thanks so much for all the success stories and encouragement. What a great bunch of role models!

My question is this: Did you find it more difficult this time? Was the weight loss slower? Did you retain water? These are all the issues that I am going through. I'm on my third time around and now on day eight with only about a pound and a half weight loss. I'm hoping the water weight is what is making that scale stick ; ) My rings are really tight. I've been drinking my eight glasses of water. I have not given up coffee- it would be a major migraine trigger and I've suffered enough with the induction flu : )

                    Any tips?

Re: Has anyone here had success the 2nd time around?

I have lost weight more slowly this time, but that's okay. I didn't become 60 pounds overweight overnight. It took years. So if it takes me a year or a year and a half to lose that weight I'm good with that. I know that if I go back to eating lots of carbs I will gain the weight back, so this time around I am looking at this as a lifestyle change. That means no refined sugar or white flour for me, ever. If that is what it takes to keep me healthy, then that's okay too.

I am more determined this time around and have found staying on plan easier. I did have a 3 MONTH plateau at 156.5 pounds which drove me crazy, but I stayed on plan and started a more vigorous exercise program on July 10th. I have lost about 13 pounds since then and now have only 23.5 pounds until goal.

You can do this if you want to. It's not a miracle diet. You won't lose the weight overnight. But if you commit to it and follow it properly, you will lose the weight and will be able to maintain the loss.

                      Best of Luck!

You're older than you were the last time. It may not be by much, but it counts and that never helps.

That said, your stats say you're wanting to drop 35lbs, and you say you're on day 8. You're about 1/2 way through induction and you can reasonably expect to remove between 5-10% of what you need to lose during a clean induction (exercise/clean eating/supplements). That would be 1.75-3.5lbs, so it sounds to me like you're right on target.

Where you are in your cycle will affect the water retention as well. Keep drinking your water and watch your sodium intake. If it's water weight, it's transient. It'll go.

You have nothing but time, so far as this goes. You aren't losing slowly, like I said, sounds like you're right on target. However, the time is going to pass whether you actively work to remove the excess weight or not. So what if it's slower this time around?! Slower progress is still progress in the right direction

                        Continued success!

Hmm, well I think we always perceive things are tougher on us than they were the last time. It might be 6 of one and a half dozen of the other. It might be a little bit tougher and we might truly think it is.

I know this is your third time around but I would certainly post your menu with quantities for others to review in the review my menu thread. Are you getting enough fiber? Are you regular? We've seen lots of Inductioneers who were full of it because they weren't getting enough fiber. Also, I'd be drinking much more than the minimum amount of water in the beginning. LOTS more. I drank and peed all day yesterday and am down 2 pounds today. If you were eating lots of carbs before you restarted you should have some water weight falling off now as you deplete your glycogen stores. Are you in ketosis? Are you using FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal??

Re: Has anyone here had success the 2nd time around?

this is my second time around and I am finding it easier than the first time ~ I feel like I know better what to expect and how to eat. I am more aware of nutrient labels and hidden sugars when I am eating out. I guess I just feel so much more INFORMED than I was the first time around.

I've been back on plan for 2 mos and have lost 20 lbs. Not rocket rate, but I am happy with it. If I can keep this pace steady (thru the treacherous Nov/Dec months!), I will meet my goal by March which is a month sooner than I had hoped.

As someone else pointed out, the best thing I have done for myself is to stop thinking of this as a "diet" and just think of it as the way I eat. Lots of people restrict their menus due to allergies or medical conditions or ethical beliefs ... I'm no different, really.

Good luck to all of you on your Atkins adventures!
