  • Sick of protein.....literally !!!!

    Hi Guys,

Im pretty new to all of this and was never much of a protein fan, I do love pasta and rice ( always brown ) I was never a bread eater even.....Now I'm finding that after a few days I'm feeling sick, literally, if I think of an egg or some chicken I feel nauseas, this leads to me skipping food altogether...anyone else had this, lol the funny thing is I could eat the mentioned foods easily before but not anymore, it's getting to the point where I'm eating hardly anything !!!! LOL and no..........I'm not PREGNANT !!!!

I get that way sometimes. It is worse if I am eating eggs or chicken plain. I overcome this by making cream sauces to go with my meat and put veggies and cheese in my eggs. I make different recipes with them as well, such as soups.

Take a look at some of the soups on this site Linda's Low Carb Menus & Recipes - Home and maybe something will strike your fancy. Make sure you pick only recipes with asterisks next to them if you are in induction.

I love eggs & sausage for breakfast but I get tired of them. Remember that Induction is only 2 weeks and then you get more choices. Some STACers have deviled eggs for breakfast, I've packed leftover meatloaf with sliced peppers for breakfast this week. How about tuna salad? That may sound gross in the morning, but it's not eggs! Keep strong and stay on plan.

Are you upping your protein intake on this woe? You really shouldn't be if you are! Your protein levels should be about the same as they were before you were on Atkins but now with lots less carbs and lots more veggies and probably more fat as well in your diet. Don't let yourself think that this is a high protein diet, sometimes it is easy to do that! If you're feeling sick at the thought of protein then have a meal of veggies but definitely don't go without food!

I do know what you mean though- When I'm not on Atkins I love eggs and just have milk every now and then but when I'm on Atkins I'm not such a fan of eggs and crave milk! Good luck and I hope the protein you're eating stops making you feel ill!

Like Ann Louise said it is only 2 weeks. Look up some other options for protein. YOu can use whey protein once you get to the dairy rung (right after induction).

Look at Lindas site and try some of the recipes. I have my favorites but I listen to the other members and try their favorites. So check out the recipe forum and kick things up a notch.

Part of ketosis is that you do not feel hungry but you do have to eat. I hate eggs but I force myself to eat a couple or so each day.

Last night for dinner I made cream cheese pancakes and tried (but failed miserably) to make zuchini hashbrowns. My zuchini was to small I think so I ended up with an egg scramble that wasn't half bad.

You definately have to put some effort into cooking and preparing but it pays off. Last weekend I made peanut butter cookies with whey protien and took them with me as emergency food. 1 or 2 of those puppies will stay with you for a few hours.

          Good luck,

          Julie

I second Brazen's suggestion that you try Linda's site. Because of the money crunch, we buy lots of chicken, which can get old after awhile. But we change it up by adding different sauces and casseroles from Linda.

My worst is breakfast. I don't always have time to cook eggs or whatever. I don't care for the muffin in a minute. So, it can get tricky in the morning. Sometimes, I just eat leftovers.

Thanks guys, I thought it was just me being fussy, I've decided to go with celery and philly cheese for breakfast, I enjoyed it aswell Breakfast is the worst for me as usually I grab a Starbucks on the way to the office and then eat at lunch, I do know the importance of Breakfast, also if im not hungry but should eat is it ok to just have a few mouthfulls as opposed to a whole meal? I think my egg phobia has come from omega 3 eggs I bought, I boiled one and when I bit it I could taste the fish oil !!! Gross huh? Also Im used to my brit grocerys and as Im in Dubai there is a definate difference in the food here. With regards to upping my protein intake, thats a yes as before I didnt really eat protein as far as I know, but I will stick to this for sure, as someone with PCOS its the best option for me as low GI is the way to a healthy future.
              Thanks for the advise.

              Take care x

There is a book to help you with this, it is called The 7 Day Low Carb Rescue and Recovery Plan. The books focus is to show you how to stay on the diet even when you think you can't have another bite of meat! Maybe check it out? It helps me get through when I am struggling with temptation to eat other foods so it may help you too.
