      Re: Atkins Resistant

A number of people have posted re. specific antidepressants and weight gain. All antidepressants have weight gain as a side effect. Some have weight loss and weight gain as side effects. Different medications have different effects on individuals. This board is an amazing place to get advice on diet, exercise, motivational tools, etc. but not the place to get advice on your antidepressant dose. If you are having trouble losing weight on one medication you should visit your doctor (hopefully you have a psychiatrist prescribing for you) and get his or her opinion. Stopping a medication should always be done under a doctor's supervision.

        Re: Atkins Resistant

Have a word with your doctor and see if you can change to another type of anti-depressant. I did with my doctor, and he switched me to Reboxetine, which is an NRI instead of SSRI or SNRI. I had been on Atkins for a month last year without losing 1lb when I switched from Celexa to Reboxetine, and within a few days of switching medications, I'd lost most of the 20 lbs I'd put on!

It just goes to show that sometimes it's a case of testing different meds to see which one suits you. My doctor was reluctant to switch my meds on the basis of me not being able to lose weight, because he didnt see it as that important a factor, but I got a second opinion, and I'm much better because of it now
