  • TOM and craving control.

What do you ladies do to divert the cravings that come right before you TOM? I can go most of the month with no trouble, but for a couple of days, I feel ravenous for sweets. I cannot deal with sugar free chocolate because I tend to overeat it. I am on induction and plan to stay on an extended induction for as long as I need to lose at least half of the weight I want to lose. However, I need to get through this problem. It is always the thing that throws me off plan.

This happens to me too! This is not a popular thing to say, but here it goes -

This is where the Atkins bars and shakes are very helpful to me. Many advise against them, as they seem to stall some people. However, they have not affected my weight loss negatively. I still lost 18 Lbs. I just make sure to limit myself to 1 bar and 1 shake a day. I have them separetly, so I can have a sweet treat twice a day. This has worked for me. I don't think I would hang in there as easily without that to look forward to daily. I know it sounds terrible, as they say one should starve a sweet tooth during induction. As a former chocoholic and food addict, I found it super hard to stay on the straight and narrow without the daily bar and shake. Now, I find it manageable. Day 14 for me and 18 Lbs. down. So far, so good. Maybe you can experiment to see if that could work for you. Who knows. I figure, if the stuff says on the package that it is good for all phases of Atkins, then it can't be that bad. Just an idea anyways, even if not a popular one.

There are better ways to control cravings than by eating Atkins bars. While some may successfully lose weight with them, others get cravings or stall. The ingredients in the bars are definitely not allowed in induction.

There was a similar question asked a few years ago on the board, so I'm only posting the link to that thread here:

Which is why I said Not popular. I also think people should be able to experiment, see for themselves whether or not something works for them. It's worth it to find something that becomes very helpful in maintaining your sanity while dieting. 2 treats a day, rewards for your good eating behaviour - that's the way I chose to look at it. All I'm saying is that the Atkins bars and shakes help me and could maybe help someone else.

i totally agree with success 101. experiment with different things and see what works for you. a bar or a shake is wayyy better than a piece of cake, or cookies. if it makes you stall, dont eat them. to each their own.
i have to stay away from the shakes and bars, they feed my sweet tooth and put me on a downward spiral. i up my water intake and eat something fatty, cheese usually works. trying on a pair of jeans that are now to big works too, just for the " wow look how far ive come, no way in **** am i going to give into a craving " factor
          congrats on the weight loss!!

You can make some tea. There are many great flavors like carmel hazlenut decaf- add some splenda and some whipped cream it is wonderful.

What about pumkin mousse or chocolate sf mousse? I have done that the last few times- Use cream and cream cheese for the mousse.

This time around I haven't really had to many cravings but I knew to move onto the 3 rung where I can have a larger variety and still keep my carb intake fairly low.

I do keep bars in my car as emergency food as well as pepperoni and nuts. I also have some shakes (not atkins) in my fridge in case I find myself out of time and hungry. I haven't used any at all lately but being prepared is half the battle and I feel that the bars and shakes have some use as emergency food but not to control cravings.

Recently I read a post by Sheri about Lglutamine (sp) and it was very imformative. I suggest of you are having cravings then you should be taking the supplements as recomended. I will look for the post.
