  • Patellar Tendonitis

This is what I have on my left knee- as soon as my MD looked at it she knew. The good news it feels better today and it should heal on its own.

I probably hurt myself on the elipitical and didn't even realize it.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Patellar tendinitis is an injury that affects the tendon connecting your kneecap (patella) to your shinbone. The patellar tendon plays a pivotal role in the way you use your legs. It helps your muscles extend your lower leg so that you can kick a ball, push the pedals on your bicycle and jump up in the air.
Patellar tendinitis is most common in athletes whose sports involve frequent jumping — for instance, basketball, soccer and volleyball players. For this reason, patellar tendinitis is commonly known as jumper's knee. However, anyone can suffer from patellar tendinitis, whether a frequent jumper or not.
For most people, treatment of patellar tendinitis begins with conservative approaches.

    Re: Patellar Tendonitis

So what does the doc say you have to do to help the healing along? Do you have to sloow down with the exercises that involve your knees?

Good to know that it's nothing "serious" that requires surgery or something!!!!

      Thanks Vicki,

Doc said to try to rest the knee- it hurts worse after sitting with it bent. If after 6 months it's not gotten better then they can do surgery. No running (like I could do it any way) or jumping (again not something I have done in about a year).

Mine feels better with exercise- working from my desk kills me. I can put my lap top on the recliner if I have to. Or try to keep my leg straight while sitting in a chair. The best thing is to stand really. After it starts healing I can start strengthening my knees with squats and such.

Oh, Julie, I'm so sorry you've got this! But hopefully now that you know the doc will be able to help you manage it? I hope it really starts to feel better soon!
